SL5B Roundtable: Scientists and Science Outreach 5pm SLT

Tonight will bring together science outreach specialists to showcase how they are bringing real science into the community of Second Life.

In the form of an open discussion with audience Q&A, they hope to engage the everyday residents in science and inspire new ideas for science in Second Life for the future.

There will be presentation materials in the form of a video and slides as well as an open discussion format with a Q/A from the audience.

At the Second Sight blog are details on the scientists and their background. Location is here

Was a great panel. Shame the sim could only accommodate so many at a time

  2. Vivienne says:

Shame that most scientific institutions do not have the computing power to run these pretty sunsets.

  3. EbonyNightshade Elkhart says:

Shame that this couldn’t have run at the same time as NPR’s National Science Friday. 😉

  4. Cool – I’am looking forward to this. I wish I would be smarter but there sure is something to learn 🙂

  5. Tegg B says:

Hmm I wish I knew about this a little more in advance , I logged out for other stuff about 1o minutes before the announcement and have come back online 4 hours late.

  6. Jaxx Tardis says:

Ok, i HATE being the OT poster but since i haven’t seen anything else about it… What’s with the packet loss tonight? I’ve been ramped up to 30%+ at times today and tonight, and i’ve confirmed others having similar problems across 7 states.

  7. Free mind says:

I hope SL can keep the pseudoscientists (psychiatrists/psychologists) out.

  8. S J says:

I wish the panel could have more people who study topics relevant to SecondLife.
Too bad topics which are related to SecondLife aren’t pure sciences (pseudoscience), such as luodology and metanomics, but they’d certainly be more relevant.

  9. I suddenly have the urge to make a chain reaction alarm clock to remind myself to come 🙂

  10. isadorafiddlesticks says:

dang, missed it cuz the sim was full 😦

any form of transcript would be excellent…thanks. 🙂

free mind, on the contrary, i think it’s those two that make my learnings about SL really interesting. another mindset on how people use SL. psychobabble to you, precious mine for me. 🙂

@ 10 what exactly is the # of people a sim can hold?

To late they have already figured you out. ” Jokes”
That is cool I like science and look forward to seeing what they will add to SL besides more adult content and porn.

LL, this is an interesting topic, is the meetgin already over? Must have missed it due to inconveniance time schedule for non US time zone people. However, I am sure, you will repeat it at SL10B with conveniant schedule for all residents.
I experienced a SL5B problem, I hardly can attend any events due to ‘overload’ or when I manage to be able to enter the respective sim, I am blind and physically very disabled (like slow walking etc).
MAy be this is one of the reasons why there are even only so few posts in this blog. Many people (residents) seem not to be very much interested or enthusiastic about what LL does, oragnizes, tells their residents. This should be an alarm signal to you Katt Com.

  15. Linden lab always has good intentions of taking SL away from being a game and guys wanting cybersex. We just do away with these blogs…they always just turn out to be nothing but a performance/lag bitch sessions.

  16. Miralee Munro says:

While I’d rather not add my voice to the “What a pity we didn’t know about this earlier” chorus, that’s exactly what I do think. Woke this morning 7.30am Thursday (Australian time) to find that I’d missed this event.

I know how difficult it is to schedule things so they are ‘internationally-time-friendly’, but staging anything twice would help. Considering that there is always a limitation on the number of avatars which can possibly be accommodated ‘technologically’ on a sim AND the timing constriction, this double-staging of events could be a solution.

  17. FLUX BASHLY says:

hope they can fix the ‘power outages’ in sl

  18. Jonah Himmel says:

Hope this is going to be accessible through a replay or video

    SCIENCE!!!
