  1. Ann Otoole says:

Mitch is the “special guest” with the “big announcement”?

  2. Max Kleiber says:

    isn’t it actually Carl Metropolitan?

  3. Sean Marsi says:

Would anyone care to give me some information on TSL5B? The Teen Grid has been totally excluded in all of this it seems.

  4. Pae Sinister says:

    July 4: Fireworks!

  5. richard says:

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ,ALL THE BUGS IS SECOND LIFE ARE GOING TO BE FIX? HA HA NOT!

  6. JAR (Just another resident) says:

Countdown until people with child av’s start screaming again about how they’re being discriminated against…

    5…
    4…
    3…
    2…
    1…

    /me ducks and covers

  7. Carl Metropolitan says:

Karl can’t make it. Is it okay if I do his panel instead?

  8. ill Be Going this year and Hope it will be amazing then last years

  9. EdDereDdE Laval says:

@ Ann – yes might be – as its the “closing speech” it might be the announcement of closing sl *rofl*

    hmm SL 2.0 ? ^^

  10. Resolved (TM) says:

SL 2.0 or Third Life ?

  11. Marianne McCann says:

@9: that’s been one of my thoughts for a “special announcement” as well.

  13. nina says:

    well…
    wow.

    i guess.

  14. My guesses for the announcement are:

    1. Server software is going opensource (seeing as very soon OpenSim will be caught up or ahead)

or 2. Mainland and Private estate tiers are to be the same !! Wow how fair would that be ?

  15. Sean Heying says:

    My guesses for the announcement

    1. Teen and main grid to be merged
    2. Region prim limits raised

  16. Xavier Felwitch says:

ya monday will be interesting… it will show the true direction they want to take SL and give a hint as to what the next years policies will be.

  17. RegularSLResident says:

In response to all the complaints, I would like to say this: If you are so unhappy with SL, then why are you here? It’s technology and computers, people! Nothing is perfect, not even RL so deal with it.
In response to River Ely suggestions of banning people who are neither Christian nor believe in that, I’m sorry but if you want a fully Christian SL-type world, then get somebody to build you one. Smacks of the same RL stuff I hear all the time…if you don’t believe like me, you don’t count and no one should care about you. I don’t agree with adult using child AV’s for their own purposes but the people that I deal with on a daily basis are regular, normal people who do not engage in perverted activities.
I have been in SL for almost a year and I am still amazed at everything. If you want to constantly complain, I’ll tell you what I tell people in RL who complain about governments, politicians, etc…….If you don’t vote, don’t complain! So if you don’t get involved to change things in SL, STOP COMPLAINING! Go get another life somewhere else and let those of us who enjoy our SL, live in peace.

  18. Isadora Fiddlesticks says:

how awful of some people wishing SL to close. now even when i am angry over the fiasco over not including everyone on the celebration, i certainly don’t wish for something we all enjoy despite of everything to close down. things have been really rough, and that’s because everything about SL is new and revolutionary. everything they do won’t be right all the time, and will certainly piss us off.

there are a lot of things that they will announce, but i hope whatever that is, will be a win-win for all of us.

happy birthday second life! it’s been a long ardous road, many mishaps, many trial and errors, and now that it’s getting older and older, will need to grow up and change, but i hope not too much.

  19. Liz Yates says:

    Lol @ 15

Am looking forward to it very much but indeed cant stop wondering what that special announcement might be.
    Hopefuly it’s a good one ^^

I did decide to become premium, not for the amazing amount of benifits[ hehe] but for support and to celebrate!!!

Hope it will be a blast.
Good luck to all the folks working their butt of to get it ready in time 😉

  20. Ann Otoole says:

Maybe LL is going to license holografika 3D technology? Mitch likes the true 3D stuff.

  21. Xavier Felwitch says:

@18 the kids in the child community i know are all pg in their second lives and i am sorry but please dont put us in the “perverted people” group. have you actually talked to a child av in sl? please dont sterotype us into what you think we are and maybe you need to come visit kids5b.

  22. Meghan Dench says:

I’ll repeat again Child Avatars have been allowed to apply and Exhibit in the event. No one has or will be banned or excluded. Applications were all reviewed and the Policies including the PG Policy stands for all exhibitors.

  23. (Oh no .. not these child av’s again.. let’s give them a ‘reason’..)

No, no, no .. it’s not that child avatars are not welcome. SL children are not suspicious at all. No one remembers the bad media attention SL received because of them anymore, do they ?

Maybe these ‘kids’ just lack a speech or speaker proving that use of a child av actually is scientifically, psychologically and medically viable and that SL proudly holds the worlds first community of people that has found a proven cure for their RL need to be an ungrown babbling human in an environment that is meant for adults.

Somebody from any university, institution or company ready to back them up with a speech during SL5B ?

I’m kidding , kidding (sic) .. LL just cannot make concierges availiable this year that are availiable to clean up all the drooling toddler faces and used diapers … after all .. their ‘moms’ and ‘daddas’ are busy celebrating, right ?

That must be the reason …… 😛

  24. Thatone Guy says:

    Re: #15

It’s super early in the AM here. Please tell me that was sarcasm, as my internets sarcasm detecter seems to be misfiring.

  25. Sandor Balczo says:

Before we think about the special announcement on SL5B closing date we should make sure the sim does not crash. And considering the last two days, I am afraid we will be walking in molasses as usual. But we will not be able to remove our clothes to guarantee a smoother frame rate because otherwise someone might be tempted to show their nipples…ROFLMAO!

    Sandor Balczo
SL5B Linguist Coordinator until June 22, 2008, Exhibitor afterwards.

  26. Georgette Whitfield says:

Dang, I’ll miss M and Phil’s speech. Can you guys machinima it and post it here please?

  27. Georgette Whitfield says:

P.S. Why all the Christian bashing? @18 BTW I think River was being sarcastic when he/she said: “How about getting a discount on land and membership if you are a Mormon, or a 7th day evan, or a Christian? Good for maintaining the faith and the moral promptitudes of the membership.”
I really don’t see what religion has to do with SL5B, and targeting one specific religious group to pour out your sarcasm on, is verging on discrimination, which is against the TOS btw. Sorry if you were abused by a nun as a kid, but this has nothing to do with SL5B.

  28. Yrol Xingjian says:

    Oh… so SL5B means
    “5fth Birthday of SL” ?
    um…
    °shrugs°
Call me again, when SL still is around in another 5 Years,
    THATS then something to celebrate…

  29. Dekka Raymaker says:

so this isn’t the special announcement then?

  30. Yrol Xingjian says:

    dear Guys and Gals…
    especially #18 (RegularSLResident)
    and #28 (Georgette Whitfield)….
If you cant cope with what #15 (River Ely) wrote,
if you cant understand, that it werent “his” intentions,
opinion what he wrote about, but ironical guesswork about LL’s
intentions, then you may want to take a class in Comedy/Humour.
Until then, please stop depicting other People
as “religious haters” or similiar. Thank you.

My guess for the announcement? easy.
” Twice as much Attachmentpoints as there are now!
    but ONLY for *-_Bling._-* “

  31. Argent Stonecutter says:

I hope that River was being sarcastic all the way through.

  32. Penolope says:

umm ok….so where is the celebration part the rest of us can enjoy?

  33. Vylixan Fallon says:

Will there be a blog announcement at the same time for all the
speeches? not everyone can be at the festival ? and it would be nice to hear what the have said.

  34. Fizz says:

Mitch Kapor? As in chairman of mozilla.. So thats who you’ve sold it to.

  35. Fizz says:

    /me feels stupid..

Mitch Kapor as in chair of the board of directors of LL >_>

I still think they sold SL.

  36. Porky Gorky says:

Yay, if SL is finally 5 years old does that mean we are finally going to come out of Beta? or will we need to wait until SL10B for a working product?

  37. Cincia Singh says:

**YAWN** @ big announcement! One thing I’ve learned in my one year in SL is that the more they promote a “big announcement” the less it means to my personal SL when it’s announced lol. I seriously doubt that the announcement will positively impact my SL much … although I do still hold out hope!

  42. Zena Juran says:

I would like to speculate that LL will announce that sculpties can be exported directly into SL (in it’s native format) from the 3D Modeling application…

    Happy Birthday SL! 🙂

  43. Toy LaFollette says:

whoa… another yawner. no news here, move along pls.

the only discussion I would possibly attend would be Carl’s yes Carl, not Karl. It would be the only one worth attending. Meghan!!! Child avs had been banned early on with the c omment ‘we respectfully decline” or is that a lie?
#18 go wave your pom-poms is someones face that really cares.

“So you see, my loyalty lies with Second Life, not with Linden Lab. Where I perceive the actions of Linden Lab to be in conflict with the best interests of Second Life, I side with Second Life.”-Jacek

  44. In response to River Elly, I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or not. You must be, the game you describe would not be worth playing, the rules are getting heavier every day, restricting freedom of speech and appearance.

I would like to think the announcement would be a removal of all rules and restrictions, making it a total free for all, anyhting goes. Would be a lot more interesting.

  45. Meghan Dench says:

    @ 44, Toy.

There was confusion about Child Avs. No one will or is banned. No ban = No ban. Everyone must follow the Policies including the PG Policy = EVERYONE. Some Child Av Applications have been reviewed, accepted and are exhibiting.

    http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B

All that I stated above has been repeated many times both by Lindens and Coordinators.

  46. Toy LaFollette says:

ty meghan for refusing to recognize the truth… were (thats were, not now) Child av submission told they were “respectfully declined” or not, simple question, no double speak a simple yes or no? Is everone confused? I think not. To keep this on topic…. I dont understand why we need so many discussions at SL5B that a very few are interseted in.

  47. Meghan Dench says:

@ 47, Toy. Yes that is right Toy, like I said there was early confusion and that statement was NOT true. And there’s lots of people interested in the event.

  48. Atlwolf Blabbermouth says:

    So are peaceful protests allowed?

  49. Toy LaFollette says:

    @48 Meghan ty 🙂

  51. Lias Leandros says:

I sent you (everett) a copy of my press release and event schedule for week one. We need our round table added to the official list also.

On a side note: It is really sad that the EVENT ORGANIZERS in the group have all hidden themselves in the group so none of the participants can see any leadership titles or people in the SL5B Group. 31 Officers and 8 Owners hiding. Quite sad.

  52. Resolved (TM) says:

May be “they” will announce 2D avatars? Like in ancient Egypt. In any case from a non-euclidian point of view that does not matter much.

Third-Life, 2D ? Who knows ??? We will see that, but anyway right now am gonna have a cigar.

    Anyone want one ?

  53. Resolved (TM) says:

    I guess i know:

“they” will announce the creation of the Junior-Premium account, costing 0$, allowing a 0 sqm land for free with 0 prims.

That really would be virutal in a way (excepted for cigars but nothing is perfect)

  54. Shaman says:

Now if the comittee that is placing groups would just stop worrying about offending someone and get us our parcel, we’d like to get started with our build. I guess if we don’t get placed, after being approved, we can just give out signs to group members and have them picket the venue.
It will be interesting to hear the keynote speakers, or at least get a copy of their speeches.

  55. Resolved (TM) says:

Sorry to post again, but i forgot one thing (and also there is still plenty place for replying):

The Junior-Premium account will obviously replace the Basic account with the followin benefits

    — if you choose your avatar being a point (0D) you receive a bonus of 30% on your 0$ account

    — if you choose your avatar being a line (1D) your receive a 17,789% bonus of that same account

    — if you choose being a 2D avatar under the form of a Riemannian or Lobachevskian plane -ie.:. non-euclidian your receive a 0% discount on that account.

PS: Cigars will be taxed in any case.

  56. Annika7 Dagger says:

I offered to volunteer in any capacity (filled out the form too) and never heard back from anyone…does this mean my help is not needed? At least someone could let me know….thanx

  57. Georgette Whitfield says:

@31 Yes I know River was being sarcastic (I said so in my comment). But that still didn’t answer my question as to what any of that has to do with SL5B? Plus I wouldn’t describe such negative guesswork as River’s as comedy or humor. Sour grapes, bitterness, pessimism more like. People who poke fun at Linden Labs and all they do to keep SL running, may do so in a very witty manner. But I personally find nothing LESS funny than those who’re determined to see the worst in every situation. This is meant to be a party and celebration so how about some positivity?

  58. What would be REALLY great, is for something to be done about the “Groups you can be in at one time” limit !! I, as well as just about anybody you ask, HATE having to leave a group we enjoy in order to join a group that may have something to do with our SL jobs. It’s a hassle and a pain to leave the group you want to keep, join the new group for maybe a couple of days then have to leave it to rejoin the one you want to be in. WHY OH WHY, can’t you guys just give in and let us have a decent amount of freedom there? Raise the group limit to 35 or 50…something..it would certainly be better than what we now have.

    Thank you

  59. Meghan Dench says:

    @ 55, Shaman.

What’s your full SL name that you signed up with?

  60. Deanna Wilson says:

@48 – “like I said there was early confusion and that statement (the “Respectfully declined” one) was NOT true.”

So Dusty, Robin, Everett, and Katt Linden were all lying or mis-informed? Wow. Each of them did previously make statments confirming the “Respectfully Delined” as fact.

    That amazes me.

Oh, and for the speculators. My bet is it’ll be on a SL 2.0 which includes a move by LL into being a “service provider” under the control of IBM. The viewer will become more akin to a web (grid) browser, and that the SL grid itself will looked at as one of many. It’s not so much the disneyfication as the webification of SL.

  61. Sandor Balczo says:

    @52 Lias Leandros:

Excuse me Lias but I was there when you posted your question on the group chat about whom to contact for your press release, and nobody answered at the time simply because they all crashed, like me. Otherwise I would have gladly told you, as I have been repeating ad nauseam over the past few days to other people and as everyone has been repeating on posts and notices, that you should contact your coodinator and read the official wiki page to have the full list of staff and the latest updates.

Everett Linden would probably take more time than Meghan Dench, the general coordinator, or Dusty Linden if you belong to a group of people involved in business, education and non-profit, to process your request, so please contact her or your coordinator. We all have IMs forwarded to e-mail and we are able to read your messages, so there is no need to wait until we actually are online.

Nobody is hiding. Everyone knows who we are and what we do from the wiki. If we do not scoot to everyone in five seconds from being summoned by impatient people is only because we are helping other impatient people and we wish we had seven hands to type concurrently on seven different windows, each hand having fourteen fingers all coordinated. But I would like to remind you we are humans spread across five continents and some of us are way too patient.

  62. Sandor Balczo says:

    @57: Annika Dagger.

Your application is on file and you asked on June 1, 2008 to be a greeter and to be involved in project management tasks and anything else that would be available. From opening day. Today is June 20. Opening day is June 23. That is why I did not call you to either be a linguist or a greeter, which is my realm of interest until June 22. All other positions had been taken by the time you applied.

I do not recall anyone telling me you complained to any of the coordinators for not being called, although our names have been public for quite a few weeks. But since you preferred to complain publicly, here is a public reply to your complaint.

In any case, if you still want to volunteer as a greeter, please contact Dusty Linden or Atashi Yue.

  63. Ree Indigo says:

Curiously enough, they haven’t mentioned why there’s nothing on the schedule for July 4. Obviously, this is the American Independence Day, a cause for celebration for Americans and a time for us to strut our colors.

Did they think to omit that they’re taking the day off to join the celebration in RL might offend the non-Americans? Or were they purposefully trying to offend the patriots and former US military that make up the backbone of the SL community that I support by not even mentioning it?

  64. Annika7 Dagger says:

    @63: Hello Sandor

“Today is June 20. Opening day is June 23. That is why I did not call you to either be a linguist or a greeter, which is my realm of interest until June 22. All other positions had been taken by the time you applied.”

Sorry but I would have thought I’d be informed before opening day so I would know where to go and what to do. Planning ahead.

“I do not recall anyone telling me you complained to any of the coordinators for not being called, although our names have been public for quite a few weeks. But since you preferred to complain publicly, here is a public reply to your complaint.”

I did get an email to fill out the volunteer form to which I replied that I had done that already – but no response back to my question of what to do next. Sorry if using this format to get answers is wrong, wasn’t trying to do anything other than get an answer and seemed like a likely place – folks really communicate here…which is great!

In any case, if you still want to volunteer as a greeter, please contact Dusty Linden or Atashi Yue.
    “Thank you, I shall.”

A Role Play I belong to The Latex Dolls, has just had its display removed. It applied, went through all the processes, was granted land, spent 4 weeks working on everything and has just now been banned. It is an adult latex bdsm group but went through all due process to contribute, ie to be PG. The rules change on whim and all that time and effort and energy is wasted now.

#64 blinks at the post. FYI July 1st is Canada Day to.

  66. Marx Dudek says:

Just a question – how does this work … is SL5B an exceptionally laggy event, given the number of attendees? And how difficult is it to actually get in to be a part of it? I’m guessing this is at least as well-attended as an ETD hair sales event. 😛

  67. votslav hax says:

ahhh come on.. this is history everybody.. 5 yrs congrats everybody sl would not be what it is with out everybody… peace

  68. Daniel Voyager says:

Has LL forgot about Teen Second Life this year for TSL5B?
What is the Shedule for TG?
We had 1 birthday sim set up last year for TSL4B, this year there seems to be none set up yet.

I and Sean@3 have been asking but still no replys about it.

On Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 you released a post about: Calling All Cultures to the Second Life 5th birthday celebreation.

“The Teen grid will be having it’s own celebration – more details on that coming up in a later post.”

When will that later post to?

    Thanks!

    Keynotes (Main Stage):
June 23: M Linden and Philip Linden opening speech
    >>>July 3: M Linden speech in Teen Second Life<<<
July 7: Mitch Kapor closing speech

Not saying much, but they do seem to have *something* planned for TSL.

  70. Sandor Balczo says:

    @65 Annika:

“I did get an email to fill out the volunteer form to which I replied that I had done that already – but no response back to my question of what to do next. Sorry if using this format to get answers is wrong, wasn’t trying to do anything other than get an answer and seemed like a likely place – folks really communicate here…which is great!”

I am sorry Annika, you did not get that e-mail from me and I did not get any message of yours forwarded. This can only be explained with the fact that each person involved in this project has had to face quite a few communication problems.

For this, even if not in fault, I apologize.

I am very happy to finish my job as a Linguist Volunteer tomorrow, because I am sure there will be a lot of complaining and hurt egos now that everything is set for the opening day.

As for using this blog for communications, this has become a reality indeed, but most of the time this place, which should be used for appropriate comments, is used for rants and personal attacks which should be either avoided or dealt with in other premises, such as private communication.

Of course, you did not anything wrong in your particular circumstance, and I answered publicly because you complained publicly about something in which I am personally involved, but perhaps if you had written a few more mails (like I do when I do not get an urgent response to an urgent request), now you would have been in the team for some time.

That does not change the fact that if you declared you would start working on June 23, one should assume you have other plans before that date. But I guess, again, that the complainer is always correct here in SL. After all, I feel the logics of real life do not apply here, and rules are constantly twisted around against people who use their logic.

    Yours truly,

    Sandor Balczo

  71. isadorafiddlesticks says:

indeed, 5 years of joy and frustration, of love and hate 😉

sl is starting to be same as rl, you don’t 100% love it.

no such thing as 100% love when these two are concerned.

    😀

  72. Linda Brynner says:

    Sorry, but I won’t visit.
I’ve seen some of the resident’s names involved of the organisation,
they have been griefing and harassing…
    Amazing that LL allows them.

  73. Sandor Balczo says:

Linda, excuse me, who has been harassing?

We have spent the last two weeks defending ourselves from attacks of people who did not agree with the rules or simply liked to attract attention.

If you call that harassing and griefing, I do not know what to say anymore.

I am talking for myself and all the other helpers and organizers who have been swelling their livers and losing their hair to live up to probably one of the most aggressive shows of unfairness on the part of residents like them (we are not Lindens in disguise, just in case you wonder) who, not being able to be satisfied by Lindens’ responses to their complaints, which were clear, poured their rage over us.

We all volunteered to do SL5B. If you do not want it next year, why don’t you organize something yourselves and see if you can do it better?

It is always better to complain about other people’s alleged mistakes, isn’t it?

    Manners, people. Manners.

  74. Toy LaFollette says:

excuse me sandor but hardly no one has attacked anyone, questions were asked but bypassed with double speak and spins. I honestly believe the problems with SL5B started when it became LL5B.
When LL decided to take over it became LL5B.

If you cannot accept this, fine so be it but please dont preach.

  75. Paddy Wright says:

How sad you all are…..shame on you. Its a game

  76. Sandor Balczo says:

I would like to remind you, dear Toy, that Second Life Birthday was actually invented by Philip Linden without whom there would be Second Life.

And the problems in SL started when people started to forget we are all here thanks to Philip Linden and Linden Lab. So I believe they should have some right to tell people what is appropriate in a PG-rated event.

Paddy, you are right. This is a game indeed, but some people do not see it as such.

And as for preaching, well, I think there are way too many pots calling this kettle black here 🙂

    Happy SL5B everyone!

    Sandor

  77. Sandor Balczo says:

    correction on previous post:

“without whom there would be NO Second Life.”

    Interesting lapse 🙂

  78. Linda Brynner says:

#74. I was not referring to that.
Soms Avators, now organising SLB5, have beem griefing and harassing SL… let’s say a year ago what I have seen.
Not all… and not you… but I won’t like to mention names.
My worry is SL should be more careful to select.

  79. Linda Brynner says:

And… no I’m done with SL actually.

  80. Linda Brynner says:

    And manners… ?
There are no excuses at all, and to all,l to grief and harass ppl at all if they don’t answer a griefers mind.
Sorry, SL has a database, and they should be able to select more critically.

Have been truying to ventilate on the right blog… but closed as usual.
Just was trying to find the purple dot dress… in sl, after a few weeks of being off line. Nope not there available that dress is.
You know what? Stick SL in your… I’ve really had it.
Good luck to you all !! Economy also crashed.
    ohhhh, sorry, yes manners.

  83. isitcatcotton says:

    Takes a stab at a guess;

TG and Main grid will merge. Mainland will be pg and zoning will begin. Residential and commercial. Mature and adult areas will be restricted to islands (if still allowed) and it will be up to the island owners to ensure no kids see the smut they are peddling/selling.

    You can have child avatars.
    You can have BSDM.
    You can have adult content.
It’s just going to be against the tos.

    “Don’t ask, Don’t tell”

  84. @76, Paddy: No. SL is NOT a game, it is much more. If you didn’t realize that yet: you don’t interact with computer generated content but with real humans behind the avatars. Humans with real feelings and emotions, humans that feel joy and pain, depending on what they experience in SL. I’m really worried about and try to stay away from people, who see SL as “just a game”, because usually these people are the ones hurting others because they just don’t think about that they are dealing with real humans.

@77, Sandor: Right, Philip Linden started SL, and the people at the Lab run the technical side of SL. But – and that is really important – this is NOT a one way street. There would be no Second Life without the residents. LL created a basis, but SL would not be what it is today without the residents who create what is IN this world. Please don’t forget: all these people at LL have a job because of us, their income each and every month is payed out of our pockets 🙂 So I think that I’m well within my rights as paying customer to demand respect and fair play from LL.

Kids5B – Celebrating 5 Years of Kid Avatars in Second Life

  85. Sandor Balczo says:

@85: Well, Danny, if Linden Lab decided one day to close down or were forced to close down because it has become against the laws for any reason whatsoever, the paying customers who now feel so offended by Linden Lab will buy it up and reopen SL.

But I feel that this is not likely to happen.

    Sandor

  86. Sandor Balczo says:

    @Linda Brynner:

If you have good reasons to believe that one or more of the organizers have harassed people in the past and you have copies of the confirmation of receipt of you abuse reports (because I am sure you used the Abuse Report system to communicate their behavior to LL Governance Team) please contact Trinity Linden, who helped me in more than one circumstance to understand what would be considered abusive behavior and what wouldn’t. And, possibly, be kind to her as she is a very kind and knowledgeable person.

I was kind of disappointed in the round tables and talks.

I love concentrating on RL business coming to SL, but for the birthday you’d think we’d celebrate the perfectly wonderful business environment and economy the residents are building in SL.

/me was hoping for a business round table or two!!

But it’s still time to celebrate!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SL – the fastest growing community in the world????

  89. Come on , LL .. shows some balls here.. Friggin’ child-avatars .. Death to them all. No more. Delete them already.

How I hate these pervs.. 😦

There is NO justification for a child-avatar in an adult environment. NONE. DIE ALL OF YOU !!

  90. Xavier Felwitch says:

@90 quick ppl run its a troll!!!

  91. Xavier Felwitch says:

@86 if sl closed we would move onto the next gereration of virtual worlds currently being developed. SL has been the pioneer thus far but others are catching up so thats not really a valid argument. dont get me wrong i love this place and the ppl in it…

I’m with daniel, SL is no longer “just a game”, its progressed way passed that. 🙂

  92. Larkum Woodget says:

I had a kid avatar for a little while but it turned out to not be my SL identity.

However, I was in it long enough to discover how much fun it can be to explore the demented nonsensical attitude you had to things as a child- to just open up to the world and take it all in as if for the first time.

It would be a shame if all the child avatars were banned for the unacceptible behaviour of the few.

Happy Birthday SL – keep being all things to all people !! 🙂

  93. Renee Faulds says:

    Happy Birthday

@90 come on tell us how you really feel.

    *Teen grid much?

    —-
    Is it a game?

It is; because logging out of rl is not an option.
It was advertised on gamer sites in the beginning.
It depends what your definition of a game is.
It is a social environment but don’t fool yourselves they are always going to try to sell you on their ideas and products.
It’s a program; and it’s nothing that any other online program hasn’t offered except the ability to market yourself.

My feeling is; Call it a game, call it the next greatest metaverse advertize it as a marketing tool. Don’t care; 5 years later and I am still playing MY game.

  95. Conifer Dada says:

Happy 5th Birthday to SL. Here’s to the next 5 years and beyond!

  97. shockwave yareach says:

    @90

A friend and I will be visiting SL5B. I’ll be a puppy dog and she’ll be a child avatar. She’ll be walking her puppy with a leash and a collar, and it’ll be as pure and innocent as any Rockwell painting.

The only perverts are those of you who see a child and immediately think SEX! Pull your mind out of the gutter sometime.

  98. My wish for your non-existence is unperverted. We do not immediatly think sex, but remember newsflashes. We know that the only way to be 100% sure for now, whilst accounts are still largely anonymous, for avoided virtual children to remain the decency of real life children IF THEY ARE NOT USED AT ALL BY EITHER ADULTS OR CHILDREN.

For the time being any usage of them is sheer encouragement to the wrong people. It is utter nonsense that there should be an everlasting anonymous right for adults to be a child avatar in Second Life. Otherwise register yourselves ( on your own website / at Lindenlab / institutions of medical regression roleplay ?) with full details and get yourself backup from respectable sources to gain some credibility.

I will never trust any of you. I am not alone in this.

Do what you feel you must do.

Lindenlab did the right thing here.

  99. Strike the word ‘avoided’ in the first paragraph, btw … typo 😐

  100. Zi Ree says:

I absolutely can’t see any reason why a person shouldn’t be allowed to play a child avatar. I’m not commenting on any “ban” or “discrimination” concerning this event, since I don’t possess the needed facts. But in general there is really no reason why child avatars should be forbidden.

  101. The required steps to undertake to gain the general public trust are these :

    1. Stop all child-avatar activities while account details are anonymous. This is not meant to restrain or forbid, but is for the community the ideal opportunity to show the ‘outside’ world it can self-regulate.
    2. File a case at Lindenlabs that there is an immediate absolute urgency to depict a digital human infant in their services. Make availiable under ToS the option to be a child-avatar requires conditions to keep the ToS respected. For instance, reported abuse will ( as now ) result in immediate action.
    3. Register yourselves with full credentials to use the ‘child-avatar’ service by Lindenlab.
    4. Be the digital child you want to be.

Any other road is doomed to failure to gain that trust. And Lindenlab wants the general public. Not the merry few that do as they please in secrecy.

  102. @102
You forget, *everyone* in SL is anonymous unless they opt not to be. Reference the community standards (included by reference in the TOS) and LL’s privacy policy. Besides, unless your parents have a strange sense of humour I am guessing WiLLuMPJuH Footman is not your actual RL name.

To changing the perspective of your own words:

“The required steps to undertake to gain the general public trust are these :

    1. Stop all adult-avatar activities while account details are anonymous. This is not meant to restrain or forbid, but is for the community the ideal opportunity to show the ‘outside’ world it can self-regulate.
    2. File a case at Lindenlabs that there is an immediate absolute urgency to depict a digital human adult in their services. Make availiable under ToS the option to be a adult-avatar requires conditions to keep the ToS respected. For instance, reported abuse will ( as now ) result in immediate action.
    3. Register yourselves with full credentials to use the ‘adult-avatar’ service by Lindenlab.
    4. Be the digital adult you want to be.

Any other road is doomed to failure to gain that trust. And Lindenlab wants the general public. Not the merry few that do as they please in secrecy.”

  103. If dropping anonimity by everyone (important subject too.. i know ), including me, is required to complete previous mentioned steps I’d be willing to comply from the very first instant.
