[RESOLVED] Support Portal Maintenance Tonight: Now 9pm-Midnight PDT

[Resolved at 10:50pm Pacific] Our Support Portal is back online!

[Updated at 10:10pm Pacific] Maintenance is in progress. — Frontier

As reported earlier this week, our support portal will be offline for system maintenance tonight, Saturday, 26th April.

Our software supplier has reduced the length of the downtime from six hours to three, from 9:00pm-Midnight PDT.

During that time, the support portal will be unavailable for chat or ticketing services.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause to you.

You should probably post something about the problems we are experiencing right now. Hopefully they will be fixed soon! ❀

  13. Waldorf Bing says:

I have a question, when second life will work properly ?
I arrived here 9 months ago, 8 months of bug and crash landing…..

  14. Tobias Novi says:

Sometimes I really think you guys are kidding use … WHO cares about the support portal … Teleports don’t work , neither you cant open Scripts

  15. anjel messmer says:

It has actually been offline for at least the last 12 hours.

  16. River Ely says:

Unable to save script: Asset server not responding: Saturday night…

    Message reads :

There was a problem uploading the text for a script due to the following reason: Asset request: failed. Please try again later.

Come on people, I keep supporting you, asking others to be tolerant, to give their support, but gee, please, let us have some time to do the things we want to do…

  17. EZStrider Penguin says:

Please re-read your dictionary for the actual definition of “Resolved”. We see “issues” resolved only to experience them repeatedly, most times very shortly after the “resolution”. I seem to recall a blog posting not long ago about not “jumping the gun” on issues being “resolved” until they are, or is there an asset server bug in my monitor when I read the content of the blog?

  18. Elayne Beaumont says:

What I don’t understand is why these “fixes” can’t be done on a weeknight. Why do it on the weekend, when half the world is online? Why not 1:00 am on a Tuesday?

  19. alf lednev says:

#13 looks and thinks “Jonah!” There is the answer. *Grins* (just kidding)

Is there anyone in Lindens beside coders? It seems everything is always outsourced and no one in Lindens can do anything till, an “outsider” is called in.

  20. Tegg B says:

This happens every weekend, the grid just can’t handle 50-60k of people and bots online, THE PEOPLE HAVE TO GO! πŸ˜›

  22. I wish all businesses in the world ran the way Linden Lab does…

  24. LINDEN LABS IS A LIE says:

  25. Sweetly Blessed says:

Oh, I see, so our forum blogs will be down so we can’t communicate while the grid is borked or goes down like it did last night. Nice planning, Lindens! Geez, you people TOTALLY have your PRIORITIES out of whack! Fixing the horrible problems IN the Game should preceed ANY and EVERY single thing ELSE!!!! This is what we ALL want and deserve! Dont you people have eyes and ears to see and hear the heartfelt cries of your PAYING CLIENTS??? I’m sorry, but this has gone beyond REASON and TOLERANCE!

  26. How much do you think Linden Lab stock would IPO for right now???

    25 cents / share ???

  27. It is time We the users of Second Life need to unite!!!!

Linden Lab needs sued!!!!!! They are stealing our MONEY, our TIME, our CREATIONS, our INVENTORY, & much more…. Linden Lab still gets paid no matter if their service works or not they still bill us!!!!!!

We get billed for services that DONT WORK!!!!! The FCC needs to investigate LL!!!!!! We get billed for days, hours etc we can’t use the service!!!!! ITS TIME WE UNITE!!! Something needs DONE NOW!!!!!!!!!!

  28. THE DMCA IS A LIE says:

content creators dont waste time making great items to sell on secondlife.. when one gets stolen and you need a linden all of a sudden none can be found and they start ignoring you. The DMCA is a lie. Copyrights aren’t worth anything in Secondlife, they are just promo talk with no meaning.

I go back to selling freebies, its a waste to release anything new in this copyright violation pile.

  29. 4/30/2007 this was brought to LL’s attention:

This is a copy of a letter started by a group of Second Life residents to Linden Lab and posted on several websites as a means of making their voices heard.

In the past eighteen months, Second Life has expanded, growing from a small community of early adopters to a platform supporting millions of users. Linden Lab has created a world that inspires a deep level of passion in its users and provides unprecedented opportunities to share creatively, socially, and financially.

With explosive levels of growth often come unexpected problems. In keeping with your company’s policy and rich history of resident involvement, we the undersigned would like to take this opportunity to address some concerns that we feel have gone unanswered for too long.

There are some consistent, ongoing problems that are getting worse under heavy load, not better, and are not simply irritants but problems that are causing financial loss in some cases, which is unacceptable. Here is a brief list of the main concerns:

    * Inventory loss – this is a devastating problem that is worsening. We have no ability to protect our own inventories through backups, and are trusting you to protect that data. This is the highest priority. Sensible inventory limits (on non-verified accounts only), combined with better management tools and ways to protect our inventory ourselves would help to mitigate the problem as well. Regardless, this cannot continue – we will not accept financial loss as a feature of Second Life. It is your responsibility as service provider to ensure our data is not lost, and you are failing us.

    * Problems with Find and Friends List – we continue to see search outages on a far too regular basis. It is bad enough trying to get anywhere without being able to use search, but many users are also paying money for classified ads. Our friends lists just do not work reliably any longer, after years without an issue with them. If America Online/MSN/Yahoo can provide presence information for hundreds of millions of users, surely there is a way to make our friends lists work again.

    * Grid stability and performance – teleports fail quite regularly, especially under heavy load. Attachments end up in places they did not start out in, and sim performance varies wildly. None of this makes for a very pleasant experience for users. Long promised improvement to physics and scripting would help dramatically to reduce these problems, but there are a lot of other scalability issues as well. It often feels like the grid is coming apart at the seams. The promised use of limiting logins of non-verified accounts during peak load has been severely lacking. This would be an effective interim solution to load issues, but Linden Lab seems unwilling to use it.

    * Build tool problems – the importance of build tools that actually work as promised cannot be overstated enough – we rely on them to create content. Prim drift, disappearing prims, imprecise placement, problems with linking and other issues with the tools need to be addressed. Too much time is being spent trying to work around the problems.

    * Transaction problems – inventory deliveries are failing with an alarming (and annoying) frequency, leaving merchants with the burden of replacing missing content and having to try to confim the transaction in the first place. We trust that our L$ balances are accurate, but given recent problems, that is a cause for concern as well, and one we place our full trust in you to ensure its accuracy.

We remain fully supportive of Second Life and are more than willing to continue doing our part to help, but our confidence is steadily being eroded due to a general lack of communication and the apparent failure to successfully address the many issues detailed above. What we are asking for is that these problems are addressed immediately, ahead of new features, and that we are able to see tangible improvements. We accept that this will not happen overnight but it also cannot be allowed to continue indefinitely either.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

  30. Shug Maitland says:

    Linden ppl:
You have several portions of our SL that are contracted out to outside vendors. It should be in every one of these contracts that they must maintain an in world presence. Hopefully they will come to understand that this is not “just a game”.
Also we should know what vendor is responsible for what part of SL.
Believe me, we will add our considerable verbal might to LL’s to pressure them to do their jobs!

  31. Lancars Vezina says:

this is fine and dandy but you broke SL again. nothings working :/

  32. Logins to the main grid aren’t working now.

This has been the most frustrating month I have seen in SL in 2 years.

  33. Sick & Tired says:

Issues are NOT resolved. Login Failed errors and amount of people online keeps dropping. FIX IT!

  34. Kristiane Uriza says:

Cannot log on!! Have lost items (expensive I might add!) in my Inventory that have disappeared into the ether… when I had returned them to inventory. Also having trouble with typing lag, to the point I can’t communicate with anyone. Its a new problem happening in the last few days. Please, please Lindens fix the problems.

  35. ANDY says:

So is this another reason, i get LOG IN FAILED?
i was online with MAJOR SL yet again Problems and it crashed.
managed to get back on and said my avie would apear in a momant
then asked if i was male or female.

it loaded as a Total NOOB and Inventory is Comletely Blank.
Again at that moment it crashed.
Since then i get LOGIN Failled !!!!

Grrrrrrrr This is Getting So frustrating to a point i am NOT going to be a Paying Resident anymore..

  36. Ciara Trenton says:

Tried to logon and am getting login failed. I was asked if i wanted my character to be male or female. When i tried to relog my cache was cleared automatically, but i still couldnt log on.

I am terrified i have lost my extrensive inventory.

    What is going on NOW?

  37. Err, actually, I DON’T think the last issue, currently marked “Resolved,” is, in fact, resolved. I can’t even change clothes, much less rezz anything, and I can no longer log in now. Just says a terse “Login Failed.” No Caps-lock issues, nada. Just…no logging in. Please reconsider closing the case on the asset server issue. It ain’t fixed as of yet. For me, it’s worse now than it was earlier today.

  38. Arika Benton says:

I cannot log in…when i am able to, nothing works!

  39. Eilwynn Valeeva says:

OH, wonder of wonders.. no wonder i cant login. Gee thx LL for all the “fixes” youve made. CANT YOU MAKE SOME OF THEM PERMANENT!?!

  40. Kayla Perenti says:

Login Failed error message here too. Please reopen the database / asset server ticket.

  41. Renee Faulds says:

10:37 PM PDT – Scripts still not functioning – recompile hangs on downloading.

    Transactions are still going stale

I don’t dare to try taking a no copy item back to test that feature.

It ain’t fixed till the fat lady sings – and I don’t hear a tune being carried.

  42. I would love to see a response to the current Failed Logins from LL here on the Blog. Before I crashed pieces of my inventory vanished, (large amounts.) I would like to logon once more for piece of mind before I go to bed and see what if anything in my Inventory has disappeared.

Of course, from what I am hearing from others, I may not be alone.

LL, you got us addicted to checking the blog for news when things go wrong and now would be a good time to fill us in. (30 minutes after you announced the Database, Asset issues were [Resolved].)

  43. Talesin Reve says:

WHY oh WHY can’t I LOGIN!!!!

Please update us on that…it’s 12:41 CST now…is 2L going to be up tonight? Places to go, people to see…and then..

  44. Ciara Trenton says:

Truly, a response from LL rearding these massive issues right now would be helpful.

  45. Sick & Tired says:

42 minutes AFTER THE POST OF “RESOLVED”… still no new blog posting stating it’s not?!?!?!?!? GET IT TOGETHER ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Aria Kelley says:

I keep getting the message Login Failed (with nothing else) for only one of my characters. My alts are able to log in with no issues However, this one character I can’t get in with. I was just online, I logged off to restart my computer then began getting that message. Once, I logged in, but I was “ruthed” not only that, but it was as if I was new, I got the message “Your character will appear in a moment, use the arrow keys to walk” and all the pop ups about editing, opening inventory, etc that you get as a newbie. So, I logged off once again and now again I am getting the Login Failed message!

I noticed the blog for assest server says it’s resolved, but is it really?
Anyone else having issues like this?

And I have cleared my cache and tried logging in to other sims as well with the same results!

  47. BloodDoll Lulu says:

    Sucking Life

  48. Alexis Gaibov says:

Well, it would be nice if we were actually able to log in when it says all fixed.

*shakes her head* if it weren’t for some of the friendships i’ve made here I’d have given up long ago.

  49. Agahnim says:

Login Failed, Login Failed, Login Failed, Login Failed, Login Failed

Oh come on! Every single week/day it is something with you guys!

  50. Ciara Trenton says:

Great i just logged in and my whole inventory is GONE. THANK YOU LL FOR NOTHING

  51. Dilbert Dilweg says:

Greart issue an all clear and clearly not ALL CLEAR! our region still completely gray land textures wont load and Avatar textures will not load and now cant submit a ticket . lol what next. losss loss losss

  52. Aria Kelley says:

Yes please reopen the asset server ticket!! It’s not resolved… I sure hope I get all my inventory and character back and it didn’t glitch and save me as some strange newbie

  53. Arianna Voltaire says:

I keep getting login failed and cannot get in at all what is going on??? Is it fixed is it not fixed…Login Failed ….Login Failed and my friends say I pop on and off but nope LOGIN FAILED

  54. Michel says:

Can’t change clothes, objects not rezzing or attaching, and when I go in, I’m ruthed…O.o

It’s really all very simple. Someone builds a dam, and it has a capacity, as the dam starts to fill in, the makers start to add a few artistic touches to make it look nice, however, because of the water pressure and the sculptures the makers added, a crack appears. Isntead of repairing the crack when it first appeared, the makers just applied a band-aid, and they made the dam walls taller, so they could get more water in. All along, water was poured and more sculptires and glitter added to it. And the crack got bigger and the more band-aids were added. And that’s what’s been happening here too. Instead of trying to figure out where the crack is and how to fix it, they just made this HUMONGOUS MESS and not in between all those codes, some operation, some defunct, some just “glitter”, they can’t find where the “dam(n) crack” is…

  55. Aria, the same thing is happening to me where I can’t logon as my main av, but can with my alt. This has happened to me once before and support told me it was because my av’s are housed on different servers. Sounds like LL is having server issues YET again. *sighs*

  56. Ciara Trenton says:

They picked a heck of a night to ask if things are better with one of their surveys…MY ANSWER IS NO IT IS NO BETTER.

  57. Savannah Savon says:

I do two mistakes today – but the bigger one is to try to relogg.

    Thanks LL

  58. Charlie Vanalten says:

Why is it that the general program keeps going down, possibly because of all of the free accounts. If all paid then LL could get better servers and maybe just maybe we could ALL enjoy being able to log in.I was given a time to log in but guess what ,it came and went still cant get in. How about getting the program working before you try changing things, then we can at least have some fun while things are changed for the worse, yes I did mean for the worse after all it never gets better does it.

  59. LOGIN FAILED says:

  60. Arianna Voltaire says:

its very upsetting that NO ONE IS INFORMING US YET we cannot get in!

  61. Ariana Petrova says:

By the way, your assest server issues aren’t fixed, and how convenient that the support portal is down for maintenance when I can’t even log in now. Everytime I try I get “Login Failed”. Would be nice to know why I can’t log in.

  62. Arsheba Nasu says:

    Issues NOT resolved.

  63. Charlie Vanalten says:

oh and by the way your survey wont let me make a comment, its all blacked out,and Im running on a pc with xp.

  64. Adaarye Shikami says:

Seems that many are suffering from “Log In Failure” repeatedly. Please take a moment from the doing maintenance to the support portal and help us out please. Thanks!!

  65. Renee Faulds says:

  66. Tpenta Vanalten says:

Folks, it would be reassuring to know that someone there actually knew that there are problems by seeing something on the status page or a blog entry?

OK, you may be working your behinds off trying to find the problem, but for goodness sake, let us know that you know there is an issue!

  67. Jaca C says:

Well it is not resolved. Loged in and went to walk and was booted without a word or even a crash log. How is anyone suppose to do work – business?

BTW is anyone going to answer me on the trademark issue with my blog???

  68. Arianna Voltaire says:

A response to the LOG IN FAILED would be greatly appreciated at anytime. I believe someone out there must see us. o.o

  69. 11pm and LOGIN FAILED – see ticket

  70. Savannah Savon says:

I spend a lot of money every single month in Land fees – that goes directly to LL – even if i live on a private island – so its like renting a house in RL – what would i do if two times a week someone blocks me to enter my house? dunno – but not only waiting in front of the door 😦

  71. Arianna Voltaire says:

    OMG I am IN ….now what a shock…im a ruth.

  72. Aria Kelley says:

And after over an hour of Login Failed and Loging in as a newbie, I finally got on… Now I’m scared to move!!!

  73. Talesin Reve says:

    back in

    no inventory lost

  74. ANDY says:

maybe we create a Huge Group
And Everyone thats a Paid User, removes Payment Info for 3 months.
Losing millions of REAL DOLLARS, Will Wake Someone Up.

Or Maybe there is Just a Malfunction from the Techs Chair and coffee machine to teh Server Issue?

  75. Vinhold Starbrook says:

Successful logon 11:04 SLT Inventory intact. I also could not relogon during the time covered by the above log entries. Before I logged out, items would not rez, an item I was making would not save to inventory.

  76. Disco Simons says:

1 Good point me me is beck in no more Login Failed pffff
Me hope its go good for more as 24 hours.

  77. ANDY says:

    Finally……… THank YOU !
Now My Inventory is back up and my Avie isnt RUTHED! i can go Visit Alicia’s Store. to get what i was trying to earlier.

Yes Alright I Am SL Addicted…

  78. Arianna Voltaire says:

YAY ok im me! NOW can I move and TP…we shall see…but um…can we know what happened too?

  79. bugsy says:

whats the point of a support portal when you can never get support from it. oh yeah and your server is actin up AGAIN

  80. Ciara Trenton says:

Backin and i am going to bed after checking that my inventory is indeed in place…and yet i still see no word about what happened.

I just wonder what we will find in the morning….

  81. blackcrow6667 garmes says:

“Resolved” is helpful and sufficient only when these problems are not reoccurring or at least, not as frequent.

More communication and transparency would give everyone a better sense of how Linden Lab operates and perhaps, a little more sympathy in these cases.

  82. U M says:

    No problems here………..

  83. Cernus Piccard says:

katt thinks you need a brain, the stuff going on sl is illegal , spying , satellites , productions, it saddens Me to say , I’m closing My acct. the first year you can then the 2 year you play with them , lindens can fly to the moon or transpose it as who really would understand but the astronauts, your using it for all the wrong purposes you not going to shut people up . in america if you don’t see things the american way depending where you live they do take action…law suites ever where lindens have this one sided where you can not sue them , though they can screw you. good bye Cernus. I closed my account. please do close Cernus ASAP do not hold it open.

  84. Cernus Piccard says:

    and My english sucks

  85. Cernus Piccard says:

    not even worth typing

  86. Coventina Dalgleish says:

On the previous subject that is jammed packed with useless information your asset problems are not solved pull your heads out of your backsides and repair the damn thing

  87. TC says:

could you perhaps announce each time it is safe to relog, rez and buy stuff, i think this way you wouldn’t have to post that often

  88. Cernus Piccard says:

    you think he he

  89. Midnyte De Cuir says:

I’m using this blog to complain about the service on the support portal..yes i know..probably a waste of time..but I’ve spent over a week now too-ing and fro-ing with support staff trying to find out the answer to what seemed a straightforward question…I still don’t have an answer but i do have a lot of thanks for getting back to them with my issue.
now I’m a premium account holder and all i wanted to know was how to connect that premium account with another existing free account…sound simple?
    well apparently not
wouldn’t it be nice if, while they were jiggling a few wires they fixed this sort of ting as well

  90. Belle Franciosa says:

I don’t usually post on the blogs, in fact, I talked with a linden yesterday and told her that sometimes the complainers go to far. However, today I have a different take on that. To the new CEO:

You have a background in Customer Service. I seriously hope you can see that LL customer service sucks. Not the lindens themselves, but the policies in place within Linden Labs. When the grid is down, those of us that pay for memberships and tier fees should be compensated for the time. I know when my cable goes down, they deduct a prorated amount from my bill. Its good customer service to do that.

If the asset server goes wonky and kills someones inventory – they should be compensated for the lindens they spent on that inventory. You have full transaction records of every in world purchase. If it is your fault (or one of the mysterious “vendors”), then you should pay to replace the missing items. Again, its called good customer service.

This is far beyond a “Game”. We have a real economy in here and people make a living in here. When you charge for that right, and charge mightily I may add – since tier is so high, start up costs for sims, etc, and you make money on every Linden Exchange transaction, there comes a certain responsibility to your customers. I don’t care what your “legal” documents say – if you keep going the way you are, you will lose money, and your customers will go away. I cannot tell you how many people I know of that have left SL, pulling their businesses out, and hence YOUR revenue from those businesses, because of poor customer service on your end.

You do nothing to help enforce the copyright laws that you so proudly advertise. You hold no responsibility for lost inventory or down time. You care less when a creator spends hours, days, weeks, creating something to only have it disappear before their very eyes with no explanations.

You have good people working for you, for the most part. Every linden I have ever dealt with has been very helpful and apologetic. However, you need to fix the structure of your policies, and realize where your bread is buttered. You are marketing to large companies now, do you think they will put up with this treatment for long? They will take their ball and bat and go home. Your main customer base is still the little guy, the individual with time and disposable income, or the small business man or woman who is eeking out a living through your company. That is the meat and potatoes of your business. Take care of us, from the partier who just likes to dance and shop in sl, to the creator who sells their wares on a piece of land that they pay tier for.

Its time to limit the free accounts. That alone will cut down on several problems – grid overloading and griefers. Ban bots. COMMUNICATE! That right there would keep most of us happy. And most of all…. Fix the Grid~! Stop with the pretty things, stop with the gizmos and gadgets that cause more problems then what they are worth. All of that can come in time once you fix what you have.

    Thank you for your time.

  91. Midnyte De Cuir says:

well said @90. As one who is trying to sort out my “free” account and make it “legal” (without success i might add) I applaud what you say and second it. Those of us who run businesses in SL are way past finding all this amusing

  92. Dilbert Dilweg says:

Yep 4 hours since all clear has been issued on database problems. and everyone still graY . the Entire region is gray and no answer on Tickets. this is what people pay big money for.. Pretty amusing “NOT” I am about done with it again .

  93. Hiawatha Kapelusz says:

I cannot log in, and when I can get in, I keep getting constantly logged out. I am new to this site, and was wondering is the norm ?

  94. Janerella Voom says:

stopping free acounts and bots won’t help fix the grid. If free acounts will leave, a large part of secondlife will leave since many premiums have downgraded to free because of the lack of service.

stopping bots is good to stop advertising, but they don’t cause the big lag. most people who run bots are the ones on the 100.000 traffic sims CAMPING HERE, GET FREE LINDENS, not on the mainland or other places you like to go to.

i agree with kicking the camp bots out but i object to banning my bans-slurl-spammers-in-my-groups-bot-script since it makes the world better instead of more annoying

linden labs should stop advertising copyright protection untill they actually enforce it. there is a big amount of stolen items out on the grid and we all see they dont enforce it and it doesnt works.

  95. U M says:

have you tried your island support option life chat dilbert?

    U.sagi M.usasgi

  96. Razor says:

    Hiawatha Kapelusz, thats normal

  97. mimi says:

“could you perhaps announce each time it is safe to relog, rez and buy stuff, i think this way you wouldn’t have to post that often”

    good idea.

  98. anjel messmer says:

Im still unable ro login to the residents account area after 2 days. How am I supposed to submit a ticket about this if I cant log in. I dont see whats the point in paying for a service that im not getting.

  99. Razor says:

anjel messmer, don’t waste money on a premium you don’t need one to login (if you can)

  100. anjel messmer says:

I am paying premium, have been for nearly the last year. I cant even get gust access to find out what is happening with my account. Id seriously think of cancelling my subsciption if I could get access to it or anything else.

Wow angry people, LL you should really listen. It is only a matter of time before you get sued by a group from here, or people here find a way to hit you were it hurts, like a mass account downgrade as suggested above. I was one of the odd few who did not get booted out. Lucky me, but how fun to be in world with no one else there. My own sim would not let me tp directly to it, said I didn’t have access. Stability LL, I would suggest you role back the clock. Take us back a few veiwer versions, before your windlight (who cares about pretty water & sky if you can’t stay on or tp or use $L or rez) started screwing things up. Find the problem then over the week, not week end. Even if it means going down late night each night of the week day. Fix the most basic issues, and let us know you are addressing them. Seriously too, fix your method of recieving and helping with support/complaints. You have to hear us complain. I get a 404 erroe trying to list an event, I email the address it gives me, I get a responce that that address is no longer valid? So no help? I have to put a support ticket in? LOL like I want to bother. I just face it that I am not able to use the function, yet others are and i was able to before. I saw it coming, the fracked up weekend, the week had been too smooth only a few glitches and issues, I knew come fri and sat Kaboom crash screach. And there it was just like clockwork. If I can predict this so can you. Please have a big meeting and hear the people, they are sick of it. Figure out what it wil take and fix stability first and foremost, then leave it alone. Let things work for awhile. Thx

  102. Kristiane Uriza says:

I still cannot log in at all. Keep getting login not successful feedback. Its been like this for at least a day now and I have rent to pay in SL. Is anyone else still having this trouble? I thought it may have been my computer but every other program I have works ok, except SL. I also have people I have to contact in SL but apparently nothing I can do about that. Please let us know what is going on. Im from Australia and would like to know if this is a global problem or not. Post a notice somewhere so at least we know what is going on. Thanks.

  103. Wynochee LeShelle says:

Same here (Europe/Austria) Globe-wide not all accounts are affected, because some lucky people are in game, but a relative big amount of accounts has still troubles to log-in or – if logged in – troubles with issues in game, like failed tp, failed rezzing, transaction probs and inventory probs. So, it is not your computer.

  104. Kristiane Uriza says:

Thankyou Wynochee LeShelle, good to know its not just my account or thats because we are so far away from the US. Sad though for all those still affected by this. I really miss my daily dose of SL!! And my inworld boyfriend 😦

To the powers that be… Bring back a fully functioning SL ASAP!

  105. is there anyone out there in management listening Gee…. i dont think so. Some days like today you say its fixed but i still can’t log in. There is a real SL that is totally unresponsive to its customers and the fairy tail you keep telling everyone. Gee…………the king is waring NO CLOTHES !

  106. Almadi Masala says:

I think I have finally figured it out. LL feels bad that so many people have become addicted to their product, so they are trying to help us break the addiction by gradually making SL more and more unusable. It’s their form of ‘tough love’ — and it’s working! Now that a large part of my inventory has become permanently unrezzable, my cravings for SL have diminished greatly. :-\

  107. Dylon Revnik says:

Day two and I still can’t log in. Fixed?!?! I don’t think so >:-/

  108. nawal says:

i don`t why i can`t logg in second life ? i have good screen card

  109. Renee Faulds says:

….and yet continued utter silence from Linden Labs.

    How sad.

Joppa Linden I apologize for getting mad at you and hurting your feelings when you suspended my account. Renee

  116. Cat Cotton says:

@23 Your absolutely right. Why else would they allow someone to sell Captain Sparrow Avatars, right now. I honestly don’t believe Disney is behind the avatar who is selling them. Take a good look at IW sales if LL doesn’t care that Disney, is being ripped off then they certainly don’t care about those of us who upload our original works.

In short doesn’t upload anything your not willing to have copied, sold, transfered, or ripped without your permission.

I gave 1 example there are literally thousands of ppl who are stealing the work of others for personal monetary gain.

  117. Cat Cotton says:

In the new viewer the tools have been removed that allow us to stay online until there is a server crash. Remove them from the old client.

  118. Rex Cronon says:

I bring news. For some the news might be bad for other it might be good.
Backing up your SL inventory seems to be POSSIBLE! Restoring it, also seems to be possible.

Following is the url from where to get it: “http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=541881”

If above link doesn’t work than go to slexchange.com and search for: Second Inventory

I am not associated with this product. I haven’t even tried it.

  119. Lance Corrimal says:

@118: it shows. SI can only “backup” stuff that you have _FULL PERMISSIONS_ on. thats usually not the stuff that costs money… maybe it had cost your time because you made it yourself though.

  120. Janerella Voom says:

@118 ive sen the program shows textures of full perm items. thats a bad thing, these shouldnt be shown especially since the skin shown on the picture is a STOLEN skin.

  121. Laelynn Voom says:

Ok, ummm what exactly is going on with SL? Instant lag as soon as I loged on and continued up until my big crash finale. I mean OMG, this is really getting unberable. I’m sick of my money being stale, my avitar moonwalking in place, running into walls (my AVI is PREGNANT…BTW), sick of going undergroud, and tired of seeing mass amounts of newbies when I know what my friends should look like. Will this ever be fixed, if not tell me now so I can put in my subscription to The Sims ONLINE!!!

  122. musha says:

*yawns* @ all the children. we sure these people are from the main grid? Sounds like teen puberty over load in here. /me scratches head and blinks at the very nasty people in here.

  123. Cappy Frantisek says:

Anyone working on Sunday, major lag. Group owned stuff broken. Yay, it’s Sunday.

  124. Laelynn Voom says:

*Smiles sweetly at #122* I’m so glad those who dont have a paid account can talk about other people being children. Those of us who do invest time and money into this enterprise know the damage it can cause financially. Think ahead before posting…

[RESOLVED 10:00 PM PDT] These issues have been resolved. Thanks for your patience.

[UPDATE 8:38 PM PDT] We are still trying to nail down the problem. Thank you for your continued patience.

[REOPENED 6:25 PM PDT] We are currently experiencing some Asset Server Issues and investigating the cause. Updates will be posted here when we have further information. Thank you for your patience

[RESOLVED 5:00PM PDT] Everything should have returned to normal by now as the repairs have finished. We apologize for any inconveniences you may have encountered during this time.

[UPDATE 4:00PM PDT] We still have not gotten word on the status of the repair. We apologize that this is taking so long. We hope to receive word soon.

[UPDATE 3:25PM PDT] Our vendor has dispatched an engineer to the facility. We are waiting for them to complete the repairs so we can bring the system back up to full speed. You may still notice intermittent problems until those repairs are completed. Further updates to follow.

[UPDATE 2:40PM PDT] The problem has been traced to a faulty piece of equipment and we are attempting to have repaired or replaced. Once that has been done things should return to normal. We will keep you updated on our progress.

[2:14PM PDT] We are investigating intermittent database and asset server issues. These may affect logins, teleporting, viewing scripts/notecards, and rezzing items in world. We are aware of the problem and working to isolate the source. We will have updates as we have more information. -Chiyo

why bother with the support portal when it comes to grid issues i sent a ticket in on the disappearing skirts and got log in to such and such to vote if you want the problem fix! well if i didnt want the problem fixed i wouldnt have sent a support ticket in! DUH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember the good old day when LL had support and help in world by pushing a button and connecting to someone who would at least try to help. Time to check into other 3d games.

  135. Kristiane Uriza says:

@122 Ive hardly been rude… said my please and thankyou’s! My Avi was brought up right!

However, its Day 2 now and still can’t login. Causing my Avi to think she is going to be booted onto the street if rent isn’t paid and her owner is having withdrawal symptoms. Kristiane has a whole bunch of friends in there, plus many connections. Yeh, my Avi actually has an SL life!

Btw… both Kris & her owner are way past puberty hon.

  136. Not going to happen Cat – you were able to log in and Second Life itself was not 100% off line for twenty four hours.

Unfair? You bet. Sadly it is the truth.

  137. @ 124: I am rather glad those who have a paid account stopped to think about the possibility that they could lose everything at anytime and still went ahead and dumped an ungodly amount of real money into Second Life ….

Oh wait – most people do not really think about this at all and then come here to the blog to complain … As if somehow they had paid into a fully stable company and software with at least two years of running at near total efficiency.

    Glad you thought before paying.

  138. Cat Cotton says:

@136 never say never. SL should be online 24/7 to meet the needs of its customers from around the world not just the working hours of those in California.

  139. Trella McMahon says:

Maybe while your at it you can fix the event posting for live music events. You are kicking event postings back for saying the artist names, which are live artists game names as mis spelled words as well as the name of the club hosting the live event as a miss spelled word. If we cannot post our live events due to the spelling of names you supply part of, we can not post it so people know of the event and you are sinking live music events in world. Live venues loss enough in trying to support live music without SL “TM” working against them

  143. U M says:

Laughs and you call telling people that whinning makes you more adult? Gesh………I too am a paying account for almost 4 YEARS…….Little that some have repect for other people personal thoughts here. Shows that some peope just use the internet so much they lose sence of how to deal with people. What we have been having problems with over the past 3 + months nobody should be exposed too. 100,000(s) of real YEN i spents om sl. Maybe you like wasting money and don`t have worry about it. But there are many that don`t have it to waste. Mature? well maybe in concept alond but in rl your not even close.

frankly speaking you are correct. around the world with real native people instead of translators…….

  144. VIc says:

Funny… everyone has been asking for blogs to be opened…
    Now, they are,
We even have someone in charge for communications..

Guess what happens ? We all keep posting about problems, but have
    absolutely NO answer.

    How useful….

    Like pissing against the wind…

  145. coventina dalgleish says:

For all of you who wonder why individuals complain here, the main reason is there is little information supply from Linden Lab/ research on a timely basis. If you analyze the bulk of these complaints it is not about the enjoyment of the game but the lack of ability to enjoy the game. The method employed by the lab is very indirect and shelters them from direct problem solving. There is no excuse for someone not to be able to log on for two days. One suggestion I might make on that topic. When this happens to me, and it has several times in my 3 year life, strip everything related to SL from your computer. This does not mean a simple uninstall but thats the starting point. Go to documents and settings/your computer name/application data/ remove the second life folder totally. Then run regedit do a search for second life and remove all entries. Then do a search for linden and remove the linden research entry. Now reboot and re install slug life. This seems to work in most cases. I believe the most important thing is the removal of the sl folder in application data as something there does not track data supplied. Oh yes and run a check disk for you windows users so that you may unlink all the cross linked files this game enjoys creating. It is a shame that LL has not seen fit to produce a written manual for the game, as most on line games do, as this information could be contained as well as many other items such as the most heard question I receive from noobs, where am I and what do I do. You have wasted a resource LL in not using the massive knowledge base to which you have access. When I see a 4 year old player posting here that should be an indication that all is not well in your small world. I also suppose you treat these blog responses the way most online games do as a place for the community to whine and complain in as much as only a small portion of your entity takes the time to even read much less submit a post. Take note most here, who take the time to post, care about this world you have created. Of course you do have the one liners that just take up space and should be removed so they do not take the limited space you allocate. But, then many other things in the game do not function why should we expect the blog to be policed.

  146. musha says:

πŸ™‚ lol love this world and the people in it. just the people whining are the ones that have to much money, I get my freebies and rent from a rl friend so I am good. plus I am here more for the people anyways

  147. VIc says:

We love this world too, musha.
What makes us angry is not being able to log in, and to be allowed to enjoy THIS world FULLY.

“plus I am here more for the people anyways”
Yes, me too…. How can we enjoy meeting friends when unable to log in, or when the friends list is off, OR when there is a bad chat lag ?

  148. VIc says:

    *NOT to be allowed

  149. Katt Linden says:

Yes, I do understand the frustration involved with having difficulties logging in, or when things don’t work well. I’m here with you, in world too.

As for the topic of this post, it sounds like the Support Portal maintenance was completed as planned, and I hope that sounded like good news to the rest of you as well.

  150. Katt Linden says:

Yes Vlc, I’m here as Communications Manager. It’s nearly 3am, comments are open, and I am listening. Hope that helps some.
