Beta Preview Temporarily Offline [RESOLVED]

One of the central database systems that makes up the Beta Preview environment where we’ve been testing future versions of the Second Life simulator with physics bug fixes has dropped offline. Unlike “real” Second Life, the beta environment doesn’t currently have a cluster of “hot spares” we can swap to, so it will remain offline for at least a few hours until it can be diagnosed by one of our engineers on-site. We’ll know more at that point – hopefully all it needs is a stern lecturing.

Until then, the Beta Preview environment will effectively be offline, as logins will fail to complete.

[Update – Tuesday @ 6:55pm]

The machine has been restarted and the database is attempting to recover. At this point it might require a fresh data import from the main Second Life database, a process which can take up to 48 hours. We’ll keep you posted.

[Update – Tuesday @ 7:45pm]

Good news, everybody! The database was able to recover, and the beta preview is back online.

You had me there for a second… I’m thinking “not the same old whining again” before I realized you completely turned the tables with your post. Hehehe 🙂

  8. uh-oh says:

I went on the beta last night and it did a new snapshot.

  9. Why doesn’t this count as offline when it happens in the real grid?

  10. Argent Stonecutter says:

Charlie@8: read “Unlike “real” Second Life, the beta environment doesn’t currently have a cluster of “hot spares” we can swap to”

  11. JayR Cela says:

I was just wondering when the Beta client viewer will be updated to current production version ?

    JayR Cela :_)

  12. Broccoli Curry® says:

@10 you can use ANY viewer on ANY grid

–grid Specify the grid to connect to. Can be an IP address. GridChoice

  13. Sean Heying says:

Sorry Broccoli Curry® (who is not the real Broccoli Curry) you can’t use the production client on the beta grid with full functionality, for one thing there is no way to compile Mono based scripts.

While you can get there you can’t test anything of value.

  16. Loving the Entertainment says:

/me wonders when these ppl are gonna figured it out… they need to STOP adding new $hit trying to re-invent the wheel, and put they’re so called minds together and start fixing the problems at hand WE DON’T NEED MORE NEW BUGS!!!!
I find it quite interesting how everything is starting to fall apart and they still yet want to add more $hit that will break or cause other $hit to break… MY GAWD GET IT TOGETHER ALREADY!!!!

/me hands out more popcorn and watches the Entertainment

    Broccoli gives me gass… lol… nothing personal Curry… :))

  17. Lillie Yifu says:

You can select a grid at log in time, I believe it is ctrl-shift-G or ctrl-alt-G, and that gives a drop down menu. The beta grid is aditi. Angi is the main grid. Remember to log back in to the main grid.

  18. Trinity Bailey says:

I can’t access the Debug Mode on this Beta..
    I have a Mac.

Does anyone have the same problem ?

  19. mapsy says:

“uh-oh Says: I went on the beta last night and it did a new snapshot.”

Perhaps, but if so, the snapshot is not recent. I am still unable to gain access.
