    What is I-World island??

  2. LoLo says:

We couldn’t care less about this. Go do something about content theft.

  3. Solar Legion says:

Speak only for yourself LoLo – there is always someone interested.

  4. Pingback: SecondLife - How To Make Money In Second Life » I-World Island opens at midnight Pacific with 24 hour concert

  5. LoLo says:

Sure some are interested but when lost of people are losing real money on this and their TOS promises don’t work I think its pretty lame to spends lots of time on projects like these and spends lots of time on their own trademarks and ignore our problem for two years then make one lame posts with no answers and start ignoring it again.

  6. Alf Lednev says:

As a question of purely curiousity. DJ’s stream music from off world into SL, are they in breach of copyright in doing so? We have just had a long blog on Linden’s Trademark. Are Linden’s allowng other r/l artist’s and Companies products to be used without their consent? DJ’s work in SL for Linden Dollars and in turn can convert that money into real dollars. Shouldn’t they be paying royalities to the artist’s whose music they play?

“YouTube” was gutted because of breach of copyright, Linden’s wants the high moral ground on so many things, Gambling, VAT, Trademarks, they had best get their act together on this. That big music company that rhymes with “pony”, their lawyers carved up “You Tube” for before breakfast, what happens if they get loose here?

So the question is do the DJ’s who stream other peoples music here, have to pay roylaties to the artist’s or the Companies that own the product?
(predicts another hurried rewrite of Linden’s TOS soon)

  7. Ishtara Rothschild says:

I can has free advertising too?

  8. Kittrannia Cassini says:

24hrs!!!….When was the last time we were able to have SL running for so long?

    (couldn’t resist heheh)

  9. Solar Legion says:

LoLo, the entries posted into the Linden Blog are not an indicator of what they are working on. They are announcements.

  10. LoLo says:

It is highly unlikely that in the two years they posted nothing, but =were working on solutions, then posted a blog with no answers, and keep their great solutions a secret and not mention them in the blog. It’s more likely they didn’t do anything in those two years.

Read the 2006 blogs on the topic:
    http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/02/14/opengl-copying-and-stealing/
    And: http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/11/13/copyrights-and-content-creation-in-second-life/
Did they implement any of the features described here? Did they even explain why they didn’t implement any of them after two years?

  11. LoLo says:

DMCA response should be to block all instances of stolen goods from SL, not just close vendors

    Read more on:
    http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1446

Doing this instead of just blocking vendors could have two positive effects:

    * it would allow LL to better fulfill what I understand are the actual requirements of the DMCA.

    * blocking all copies of an item will be a far more effective measure against infringers. It is more difficult to just set up a new store selling the same items again; at the very least a new texture must be uploaded first. In addition, the customers of infringing items will notice their items have been removed and/or blocked. This will be bad for the reputation of the infringer. Of course a persistent infringer can still make trouble, but it will be harder.

We asked this many times, but still no answer.

  12. LoLo says:

No positive or negative answer.. none.

  13. thaumata strangelove says:

It would be slightly more helpful if someone who made this post could actually tell us more about WHAT I-World island is and why we are having a party. These events tend to fill too quickly for most to get in and the curious resort to the blog for information. If there was a back post, can you link to that? I didn’t see it.

    Thanks!

  14. thaumata strangelove says:

Oh, on another note: the lineup does sound fun. Kyle Beltran is one of my all time favorite musicians (not just in SL) and I think it’s rad you’ve included him. I can’t wait to hear the others – I don’t know some of them.

  15. LailaK says:

Alright, for clarification on the rant, here. Trademark ≠ Copyright. Not by a longshot. You can use a trademark in earnest all you want without even thinking of asking permission, there’s just a very short list of things you can’t do with it.

Copyright, on the other hand, gives you a very short list of things you CAN do with content.

Also, while this may well be a neat event, the fact that it’s impossible to teleport at the moment makes it more than a little bit irrelevant.

  16. Balius says:

PST? Are all these musicians really playing in Pacific STANDARD time ?

I thought California was on PDT (Pacific DAYLIGHT time)

    B

PS In two years, they are going to leave Daylight Savings Time on FOREVER ! (lol – more bbq?)

  17. Mel says:

And, tell me, what is I-World and their connection to LL that they get this kind of announcement and other big events in LL do not?

  18. Toad Mougin says:

For those (like me) wondering what I-World is, try this blog posting from the end of March:

    http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/29/the-i-world-team-and-i-world-island

  19. Slim Warrior says:

What a fabulous line up of Live Musicians and great to see it posted up on the blog here.
I hope it gets posted up into the Live music events listings!

    In response to Number 7:
Anyone streaming Music into SL playing copyrighted material should have a licence ie; you must licence your stream. This applies to DJ’s and musicians who play covers.
Linden Lab is not responsible for this, it is the individual who ‘owns’ the stream who is liable for this. In the UK you can get your licence from the MCPS-PRS.

  20. Ener Hax says:

omg peeps, give it a rest on the negative stuff on every single post! some of ya are so bitter, sheesh, you must be a joy irl. :p

anyway, very nice on the music lineup, that is a lot of logistic juggling! thank you for moving forward on promoting and growing sl in the world. 🙂

  21. Solar Legion says:

LoLo, there is no requirement for Linden Lab to tell us anything at all. concerning a few features … It would be beyond foolish to announce some of them in their early stages as someone could now rather easily find a way to take advantage of them.

Linden Lab is no different in this respect than America Online or any other service provider. I cannot count the times AOL changed something I liked without any warning or promised something and never seemed to deliver until several years down the road – and they have far simpler code to deal with!

@ LailiaK: Teleports work fine for me.

  22. mimi says:

@22 after over two years I wouldn’t call this “early stages” anymore. They don’t have to answer (they can do anything they want in secondlife because they own it) but does that make it more fair what they do?
they promised content creators DMCA protection, but compared to webpages and other hosts they do a crap job. webpages remove the content from the servers or block it from accessing when they are DMCAed. Linden labs doesnt, they leave the texture accesible on the asset server by EVERYONE and in people inventories.

I understand its a hard problem to fix and that a 100% fix can probably never found, but so far they did not even try out one measure. Nothing.

Content creators who fill in DMCAs for removal of content UUIDs dont even get an answer why their DMCAs are denied. We’ve asked several times for help on how to fill in such a DMCAS ‘the proper way’ or why they are ignored (unlike webhosting providers real life shops etc) and we get none reply.

  23. Chaz Longstaff says:

I have given up trying to “book appointments” in Second Life for the present, as I haven’t any confidence left that it will actually be up then. Lord knows how many weddings for instance I’ve seen ruined by LL.

  24. LoLo says:

@23 “Linden labs doesnt, they leave the texture accesible on the asset server by EVERYONE and in people inventories.”

they leave the items in the inventories, then say to people “you are not allowed to sell them” and thats it.

thats like when a thief in real life is stealing and the police telling them “you are not allowed to do this” and then walking away leaving the stolen doors house room open.

If people steal, their items need to be made inaccesible. now they can just send the items to an alt and start selling them again.
Block them or make them no transfer. And remove the copies.

  25. votslav hax says:

congratulations..every addition to the SL world can only accent and enhance the truly wonderful experience you have created..thank you thank you thank you…Bravo!!!

  26. LailaK says:

    @25
You have gone completely off-topic and have hijacked a thread about a music performance for use a soapbox for airing personal grievances that are, generously stated, tangentially related at best. This is inappropriate.

The forums might be a more appropriate place. I doubt the lindens are going to pay all too much heed to such cries if they’re completely off-topic from the blog post. They may give them more weight if put forward in an intelligent, logical fashion, in a more appropriate and constructive manner and place.

  27. Hewitt Huet says:

    @27

Is it appropriate and constructive to advertise a musical performance that I can’t even TP to? Just an intelligent, logical thought.

  28. Lisa Lowe says:

Is something wrong with the I-world? Nobody seem to be able to go there. Tried many times already from different places.

  29. Prospero Linden says:

@29: There were teleport problems to I-world for a bit there; we’ve fixed the routing problems behind them. Sorry about that.

Also, in case anybody puts 2 and 2 together… we’re omitting I-world island from the Rolling Restart this morning, and will do it’s host manually after the events are complete.

  30. Renee Faulds says:

PHIL – you are running business people out of SL because of BORKED after BORKED after BORKED days ! Your platform stability has less viscosity than diarrhea.

Where is your 2/3rd’s payment toward my monthly tier????

    Renee Faulds

  31. drdahlgren says:

I think the “live” music is one of the really fun uses for SL. I have enjoyed concerts by many RL name performers, and some really special SL talents.

The biggest problem is how many people may show up. At the moment, I see 63 rezzies on I-World where the concert is. Overflow areas can really help though.

Does anyone know if the stream urls are available so we can listen if we can not get into the sims there?

As to the content theft, its a problem, no two ways about it, but I agree with several other posters above, ranting on something so off topic here, probably places your credibility at -100. My suggestion… use watermarks and some of the other methods to help prove you were the original creator, (there are some pretty good tricks you can use to do this), and get a RL attorney to go after the offender. If what you want to protect isn’t worth persuing that way, it probably isn’t really worth anyone elses time to protect either.

Try to remember that this is a virtual world, open at the whim of LL, and according to the TOS, one that can be turned off tomorrow with out recourse. Have fun, make a little money, but try not to make it the center of your personal universe, you could find yourself alone in empty space one day if you do.

  32. Donna says:

In alot of the comments above i’ve seen loads of people asking “What is I-World?”

I-World Team are In-World Experience, they deal with Support and help to make Second Life more enjoyable for Residents. They deal with Support Tickets, Live Chat and they also give Service Updates when something goes wrong, via. the Blog. The I-World Lidens arent really as well known as some other Lindens as they are working ‘behind the scenes’ but they include Joppa, Lotte, Kate and many more. I-World Island will be a place where you can find support and helpfull Information InWorld, as the Blog Post that went out a couple of weeks ago said.

The Island was meant to open a couple of weeks ago, but that was canceled due to the Grid being down because of the ISP, NOT Linden Lab.

    To Find I-World Island;

Open ‘Map’ and in the ‘Search’ field enter “I-World Island” then hit ‘Enter’ on your keyboard, then simply ‘Teleport’ to the Sim.

I-World Island will be a great place for additional support and information, as well as the chance to meet the I-World Team Lindens.

I hope to see you there!

  33. Angeliq Littlething says:

A TOS isn’t a Bill of Rights. Is a Bill of UnRights. You were never granted life, liberty and the pursuit of a full time job by playing this game. To hijack this thread for your complaint is silly and takes away from what should be focused on.

Live music and musicans should be given a platform. There are some INCREDIBLE artists who perform for nickels, who don’t have a “business” but a love of their art. They give us their talent and deserve a little recognition NOT to be overshadowed by the problems that plague the game. Are there problems? Yes, but lets give fair due and support to Live Music, and the people that provide it.

  34. Seems like the blog is just a negative place now 😦

  35. Matt says:

They don’t listen to reason so you have to shove it in their face. Since they don’t accept feedback pretty much anywhere people litter the blog with their problems. Since LL doesn’t seem to be interested in fixing any of the existing problems then they stack up to the point where the blog is pretty much all ranting.

  36. Shadowen Silvera says:

    @30

From all of us who have lost money trying to host events and then having to cancel because of unannounced restarts or simply general instability… thanks. Makes us feel much better to know that YOUR events will be stable and reliable.

  37. Ree Indigo says:

Hush. The blog is perfectly positive.

As far as TOS and DMCA. Get some popcorn, kick back in a comfy chair, and read it line by line and ask yourself: can you imagine a law suit on half of these line items? For instance, the DMCA says you can only make a backup copy of your operating system, then goes on to discuss loading into RAM as a form of copying … it also discusses boats at length. Real boats, like you put on the water. They were bored. Skitter off, read it. It’s funny.

  38. Donna says:

@37. This event was canceled when it was first planned for, due to instability which wasn’t Linden Lab’s fault. Would you prefer this event, that will make InWorld Experience better went wrong?
That would ruin the event for everyone.

  39. LoLo says:

    @27
If Linden labs would not have ignored our questions about theft on that theft blog and would give us a place to talk about this topic i wouldn’t have to rant in other topics.

Writing things in a intelligent, logical fashion, in a more appropriate and constructive manner as you suggested does not work, it has already been tried for over half a year now. There are several intelligent, logical, appropriate and contructive jira topics about this, the biggest one for over half a year now with the most votes on jira, amongst the voters almost all secondlifes big creators, and yet we get NO replies, no answers nothing at all from linden labs. that makes people mad and disappointed in the system since we were promised improvement over two years ago and still nothing is done, and we don’t even get an answer on the question why (lag is also annoying but at least we know WHY it isn’t fixed yet).

It doesn’t works to get an intelligent, logical, appropriate and constructive way of communicating with the lindens since they don’t give any reply at all and give us no place to talk at all.

Its not your shop which is beeing ripped down, stolen and descructed.
If your creations would be played with as ours are, you would be mad too.

  40. Shadowen Silvera says:

@39 So you are saying there is some sort of intrinsic quality to linden labs doing a live music event that makes it more special and deserving than anyone else doing a live music event?

The problem is that if LL wants us to believe in the grid then they must demonstrate that they believe in it also. By purposefully not restarting the sim for this event they are saying that they don’t care about other people being able to rely on the grid in its normal capacity. They are acknowledging that this sort of interruption is harmful but apparently what is good for the goose is NOT good for the gander in LL’s eyes.

This makes me realize that LL is not willing to experience the grid from the same perspective of its residents. This lack of respect for the every day resident bothers me very much. Yes it sucks that they planned their event and then found out they had to do a rolling restart. But if I had done the same thing then I would have to deal with it where they are making a special case out of it. It is utterly ridiculous and shows how out of touch LL really is with what we want.

  41. Solar Legion says:

@31: Linden Lab is not under any sort of agreement with anyone to return any money lost. Keep dreaming or file another lawsuit which will make the American justice system look like even more of a joke.

  42. Donna says:

@41. This isnt just a Live Music Festival, if you read the Blog on it a few weeks ago, and this one properly. It is the Grand Oppening on I-World Island, for the Linden I-World Team that deals with Support and In World Experience. I-World Island will give more support to Residents and also have alot of Information on it, as the past blog post said.

They have stopped the Rolling Restart on that sim, so that all of the Residents who are there don’t get affected by it.

And Linden have all of the problems that Residents have, they use exactly the same Grid. And they were all Residents too before they were Lindens, and became Lindens because they really believe in the Grid. They are affected by downtime, crashes and instability too, when Residents have problems so do they, for example if Texture Uploading goes down for us then it goes down for them too.

They see exactly what we see and more.

  43. Masuyo Aabye says:

This rocks! the sim is packed 😀

  44. Shadowen Silvera says:

Donna. I am not going to debate it further. You obviously do not want to understand what I am saying. Hopefully atleast one of the people that reads my post knows what hypocrisy is.

  45. Prospero Linden says:

@39 So you are saying there is some sort of intrinsic quality to linden labs doing a live music event that makes it more special and deserving than anyone else doing a live music event?

You are completely right in your implication that right now it’s a problem that rolling restarts aren’t predictable.

We are working on a couple of plans both to make rolling restarts more predictable (so that you can schedule around them well ahead of time), and to give estate owners a bit more control over when their regions might get restarted. I don’t want to say any more right now because none of these plans are finalized, and as such I’m not in a position to make any promises. But we are aware of the issue and trying to do something about it.

  46. Shadowen Silvera says:

Thank you Prospero. I hope things get more predictable and I also hope my frustration doesn’t get so strong that I lose perspective. The anger that many residents feel is because they love what you have created for us.

  47. Donna says:

    @ 47. Now I do understand that post. 🙂

  48. Someone who knows says:

Completely useless announcement. Completely useless team. No one actually knows what the %$§$ the “I-Team” actually DOES and no one really seems to care about it.

Reading announcements like these is just sickening.

  49. Isadora Fiddlesticks says:

perhaps they should stress test i-world as well.

LoLo, i agree and feel your pain about the ever urgent issue of content theft BUT to post about it in a topic where it doesn’t address it is absolutely rude. besides, there are different teams working on different issues. best to do your research and pepper those concerned with your request. also, i think robin linden, or someone who posted something again about their new trademark policy hinted at something they are working on with regards to content theft. said something was in the works. i hope they work on it and make sure that whatever they come up with is a WIN-WIN situation. i’m sure they are listening LoLo, let’s not rain on other Linden’s parade. They also deserve success and our support in their projects.

with all it’s current problems, LL is trying to make SL a happy place to be in, and i think that’s admirable. while there are Lindens trying to fix the grid, there also ought to be Lindens trying to APPEASE the residents and keeping them happy.

let’s cut them some slack and not second guess their actions and putting color into something innocent as an opening of something that would improve resident-linden relations.

  50. Isadora Fiddlesticks says:

someone who knows, please go back to their older posts. your post just shows how positively ignorant and short sighted you are. do your research, read the past blog posts!

donna’s post SHOULD answer your question:

“In alot of the comments above i’ve seen loads of people asking “What is I-World?”

geez, if someone asks again….*sighs and wonders where some people’s IQs have gone*

  51. Pshhh.... says:

@#50 “let’s cut them some slack and not second guess their actions and putting color into something innocent as an opening of something that would improve resident-linden relations.”

The time to cut them some slack has passed – about 1 year ago. LL should just keep out of their own world (remember – it’s not ours anymore) so we don’t have to be reminded about what they took from us.
It’s one thing to live in a dictatorship but another to actually have to be reminded about it constantly because you have to hang out with your oppressor.
I’ve accepted that they impose their rules on us but I really, really don’t want to see any of them on my land or anywhere else.

  52. frida says:

me podeis ayudar acabo de entrar y no me entero

  53. LoLo says:

@50 two years ago the lindens made promises in blogs too but never acted upon them. i don’t believe them anymore. then they ignored all the jira requests for half a year .i’ve contacted several lindens but no answer. i’ll quit posting here, i don’t want to annoy you or people here i’m just mad with the lindens.

  54. Isadora Fiddlesticks says:

pshh…- my theory, is that it’s not SL’s choice to impose those rules, as the ban on gambling or imposing EU VAT was, but RL laws are starting to bark up LL’s tree and demanding that their rules and power should apply in SL too. as a company who is constantly being watched and bugged by RL rules and standards, it’s something they must do. change sometimes is a bitter pill we all have to swallow.

i think RL rules and bureaucracy catching up on SL freedom is sad too, but STILL….i don’t want to be be negative over what’s left of SL, like a chance to be a community and to have a great time and everyone is friends with the Lindens. Shoot me for being such an unwavering optimist…:)

  55. Isadora Fiddlesticks says:

LoLo–indeed, it’s a frustrating road ahead as LL continues to be quiet…and i’m impatient over what’s going to happen…but in the meantime I try to enjoy SL and do my best to make people aware about content theft, its something i can do in the meantime LL hasn’t come up with something. thank you and i hope the problem with content theft stops the soonest.

  56. Someone who knows says:

@Isadora: LL should just have sold itself to another company which is based on the Caman Islands or some other lawless area. That way they could have avoided all the legal bullcrap.
But they decided to stay in the US and now we all have to suffer because of that.

  57. Donna says:

@ 57. LL’s Service of “Second Life’ goes out WorldWide, so they have to stick and abide by the laws of every country that the service goes out to.

    @ 51. Thanx for that 🙂

@ The negativity. This event is a positive thing, the I-World Team arent lawyerrs and they don’t code the grid, the offer support. Don’t bring off topic comments here, especially not negative ones. Use http://jira.secondlife.com and the Support System and all the other many ways of getting your voice heard, or comment on a Blog Posting that fits your queries. Just don;t try to put a downer on such a fun and fantastic event.

The I-World Team have worked their ass’s off for this event, so that we may enjoy it.

    Well Done I-World Team!

(And for those of you who think I don’t understand why you are angry for Instability, you are wrong I do understand but here isnt the place for that. Heck I am one of the most bug ridden, trouble’s avatars In-World, as i’m a Second Life Bug Hunter. But I use the service, and if I didn’t like it, and all I wanted to do was complain about it then I wouldn’t really have the right to go back Online and use it for hours a day. If you use the service Linden Lab Provides so much, then it can;t be that bad, and if you can’t bear it, then don’t use it. It really is simple.)

    @ Joppa. *looks at watch* Late… 😛

  58. Alvi Halderman says:

  59. Alvi Halderman says:

    woho!!

  60. “Also, in case anybody puts 2 and 2 together… we’re omitting I-world island from the Rolling Restart this morning, and will do it’s host manually after the events are complete.”

Now I’ve seen it all. So it’s good enough for the rest of us suckers, but not good enough for LL? Why don’t you just admit the whole thing is a complete pile of brown steamy stuff and you not only can’t code for toffee, but have no clue what’s going on and how it all works?

Not that the grid will be up for that long anyway, or anybody will be able to log in, or tp there in the first place lmao.

As for copyright, yes, well, that always only seems to apply to people’s own stuff, they never mind ripping off others lol. I was at a big and famous clothing person’s sim yesterday, Hollywood star and other awards and all, had loads of those IP rights notices up everywhere, don’t steal etc.

Guess what was in the job application form for DJs? Yep, list equipment, eg stream and Limewire lmao. Some people just do not get copyright it seems.

@50/51 Well their marketing and PR skills have never been good lol, LL are classic examples of How Not To Do It and I’m sure will be taught in business schools for decades. But yes, more than one blog post might have been a help, and not everyone reads the Blog. I’d say the web site would be a good idea, have a space for What’s New, and explain some of these crass changes, except that is down about as often as SL itself, say once an hour on average at current performance levels.

What would be better is to bring Lie Help back, not some lame island that you can’t tp too anyway because of tp failures lol.

Commenting on the system in an off topic thread may be rude, but you see they cut away all other forms of listening to customers, they ignore or close JIRAs, phone support sticks you on hold until they have their $1 commission from the phone companies then disconnects you, Live Help went, Report Bug went, etc etc etc. For many, they are at the end of their tether, completely frustrated, as it’s a year since Linden got the Open Letter, and not one singlke problem in that has been addressed. You bet people are really mad and they are not going to take it any more.

That’s why they delayed February Key Metrics for 5 weeks, and snuck it out for the first time without a blog post: people are voting with their feet, active users have dropped, premiums have dropped, users are shrinking while land expanding. SL is imploding, but still they play Nero, fiddling and watching games while Rome burns and pushing out yet one more borked, buggy, grid crashing shiny that works totally different to expected…

The writing’s on the wall. Last hope for LL and SL is that the new CEO is appointed real soon, and dishes out pink slips to the lot of them and gets in people who know what they are doing, and that he/she can do it before the rest of us have left.

  61. Donna says:

@ 61. What are you blabbering on about lol.

Can’t code? Well they’ve created Second Life havn’t they? And maintain it? Could you do that? No so shush up bout that.
And if you openned your eyes you’d see that they did do a blog about the event before it got moved to this weekend, and I posted exactly what I-World Team do, and I emailed the Educators and NonProfits Lists so no one can say they didn;t know about this.

As for support, there’s loads of support options out there, Live Chat for premium users, there’s the support ticket system and there is the PJira for everyone to post bugs on. There’s Lindens and Residents dedicated to the PJira and working on bugs.
There’s Lindens at work 24/7 on Second Life. This event is for Residents.

Also, having I-World Island not affected by the rolling restart was and is so that the residents on the Island don’t get affected by it, that is for RESIDENTS!

All I can really say to you is, go code your own Virtual World and don;t use Second Life if it is apparently so bad and you don’t like it.

Everyone gets affected by problems that occur on the Grid and that includes Lindens. And they fix it, even major problems they manage to fix within a matter of hours, so give them a break.

I hope all of you at the party are having a fab time!
    Woooot

  62. Blinders Off says:

I have to ask the same question as first presented: What is “I-World” ???

  63. Donna says:

    @ 63. As i’ve said in a past post, and has been repeated a couple of times in comments after I said it here;

“In alot of the comments above i’ve seen loads of people asking “What is I-World?”

    To Find I-World Island;

I hope to see you there!”

    I hope that helps.

  64. Nat Donat says:

I have tried for hours to teleport into this place. 😦 NOT POSSIBLE! Another Linden triumph. It just keeps getting better. NOT!

  65. Donna says:

@ 65. Region is full perhaps? And if that is the case then I think you willf ind that it’s a great thing, so many residents attending that the region is full.

Have a little faith, don’t be so down.

  66. Mikevanman Dagger says:

There’s been some serious hotties there today. I’m in hoping of doing some pixel bumping this evening.

  67. uh-oh says:

Wow more live music on SL. that is great. I hope this is a major success. i enjoy performers that are live. I.E. Midnight Auer who streams his show from his RL club in san diego and both the SL and RL audience interact with each other. This is a great step.
I think activites such as this will give SL a good name. thank you for spreading this show over the various time zones so that everyone has a chance to enjoy this.
    LOLO
first. In addition, the customers of infringing items will notice their items have been removed and/or blocked.”
Now picture the person who bought this stuff who did not know it was stolen and has no way of telling if their next purchase is stolen content or not. How quick do you think they will be to buy something else if they stand the risk of it being deleted from their inventory?
I think that policy will shoot all venders in the foot. because if you did not make it yourself, how do you know if it is stolen or not?

  68. Masuyo Aabye says:

@65 because the sim is full, it’s above 90 avatars in that sim. keep trying to get in.

    *from Matthews post in March.*
The island will have a number of areas that you are most welcome to visit and perhaps find some additional information that you weren’t aware of before. One particular section of this island will be driven by you, our fantastic residents whose creativity and support for Second Life make it the exciting place it is today. We are setting aside an area for an I-World Expo, allowing YOU to submit items to pass on free to other residents that you feel make a positive impact to the in-world resident experience.*

So this will hopefully make a difference to many of the Residents!
I for one am excited that the SL Music Community will be able to spread the word and raise the profile of Musicians and Live Music events on the grid by having tutorials and information over on I-World.

  70. Max Desoto says:

Oh my, this is the most painful SL experience I’ve had. LL, you have FOUR WHOLE SIMS for this thing. You open ONE sim for the concert?!??!?
Region is full, FPS is 17, as long as I am standing still, goes to 1 if I try to move, time dilation, etc.
Couldn’t you have put the venue at the corner of the 4 sims for crying out loud? Please, this smacks of an incredible lack of planning!!

  71. Suzan says:

I am the third hour here now… lag is terrible.. but:

what lovely music!!!! The musicians are really absolutely great!!!!!

Thanks to all who make this possible and to the musicians. Amazing!

  72. Donna says:

@ 71. Lack of Planning? pfft don’t make me laugh… they worked amazingly hard on the event.

  73. Archie Lukas says:

    Midnight GMT sat/sun

    I went,
    the lag was atrocious
peeps with ‘Fix SL’ Banners blocking the stage
    Frozen avatars
    spam on the public conversation

It was hopeless, sorry but a failure.

Protesters – no Lindens there -so you ruined it for everyone else thus adding to the problems you protested about.

Pointless on the whole and thank you for that.

    Archie
    True Brit

  74. Donna says:

@ Archie. I’m so sorry they did that, because it did ruin it for many people, but for the poeple who were there when the protestors wernt it was a great success, and well done I-World Team you dealt with griefing greatly, and you’ve made a great success of the event, I know it was important to you and I know how hard you all worked for it 🙂

  75. Ann Otoole says:

pretty good party. still happening folks. room for about 15 in here as i type this.

  76. isadorafiddlesticks says:

WOW…the event turns into a protest opportunity…and reeks like what the olympics is right now.

the opening of the i-world shouldn’t be used an opportunity for those with an agenda, even if that agenda is for the common good. YES WE ALL WANT LL TO FIX SL, but those who choose to support and continue to feel the great vibes shouldn’t be plagued by the negativity. the singers and performers shouldn’t be reminded about these issues and unless they make a concert purely to make a point about SL’s problems, concerts shouldn’t be disturbed by those. it’s their night, it’s the opening of I-world for crying out loud!

I ALSO FEEL HORRIBLE ABOUT THE ISSUES WE HAVE WITH SL, BUT I DON’T RUIN WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A POSITIVE EVENT FOR EVERYONE ELSE WHO DOESN’T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH SL. NOT EVERYONE HAS PROBLEMS AND WE SHOULDN’T RAIN ON THEIR PARADE!

  77. isadorafiddlesticks says:

Donna & Ann, thank god that didn’t take long. i still plan on going to the i-world party and i don’t want to run into those people who will ruin it for me.

    PARTY ON!

  78. I clicked on the link to the SLurl and it opened the release candidate viewer even though I had the old viewer open. The program required an updated viewer which installed smoothly for a change. I had to click on the link a second time. I got to the music stage but the client software locked up my computer after 5 minutes which made me have to reboot.

At least during that five minutes i received a texture for a magazine ads and was able to complete some business before I crashed.

I think LL had a good idea for this music venue but like it to often does the limits of second life it messed up. I can’t blame protesters. maybe later the crowds will thin out and we can try again.

  79. isadorafiddlesticks says:

Someone who knows–they didn’t want to move elsewhere because they want something like SL to be an AMERICAN INNOVATION. 🙂

  80. isadorafiddlesticks says:

Daniele–i also have that issue. SLURLs used to open on any version of SL that is running, and now it’s different. Did anyone else notice this? Was there a JIRA or what not posted about this issue?

  81. Schizm Neutra says:

Hey, at least we got an apology (see Comment #19) for all the stuff that goes wrong in SL!

Citizens of SL need that kind of feedback, even tho it doesn’t do anything to resolve ongoing problems. My hope is that the In-World Island will put us ‘closer’ to the people who actually have answers to our questions.

The one I can think of now is…how many avies does the island support?

Cause when I try to get into church on Sundays in SL, If yu don’t get there about 30 minutes ahead of time, you don’t get in cause the sim only supports 45 or so people.

    AND, the BIG one–

Will we have to suffer the same kind of lag we get at shopping centers?

K, not meaning to be problematic here, just wanna know before I try to get on the island only to find out that there’s no room at the Inn–or once I DO get in I can’t walk around, much less boogie down!

  82. Schizm Neutra says:

    # 40 (lag is also annoying but at least we know WHY it isn’t fixed yet).

We DO? How’s come I never heard of WHY? You got a lot of ‘splainin’ to do!

  83. Schizm Neutra says:

@65 because the sim is full, it’s above 90 avatars in that sim. keep trying to get in.

Well…I guess that answers MY question…Millions of avies, some tens of thousand on at any one time…maybe a few thousands interested in getting to the island and only 90 avies on in any one time.

I’m no math wiz but I can be counted on to know when something ain’t gonna work!

Ummm can anyone say poor planning? I’m glad they didn’t plan my birthday party, LOL!

  84. Ann Otoole says:

room for 14 more as i type this. tp is a bit sketchy across the grid right now so you can log directly in to I-World Island if your unable to tp in.

  85. Schizm Neutra says:

Good thing I don’t care much for these kinds of events…thought I’d investigate because there was a time when I DID go for music venues in large stadiums…but I’m a recluse now, sooo *sigh* sorry it couldn’t have been something I would have attended with any sense of enjoyment instead of this trepidation I now feel.

Hope those who did go had a good time, and that next time some of the suggestions I see here will be implemented…it will make the experience for ALL of us a LOT better. Especially the sim limits and the lag problems.

  86. Donna says:

    @ Everyone.

The event was streamed into er Waterhead and some other places, and you could have listened via. the internet using the Streams.

The music was amazzing, and even though there were a few minor problems, in all the event was a great success.

  87. Someone who knows says:

You’re annoying Donna. We really don’t need fan’boys’ like you.

No matter if the music was great, the whole idea of I-whatever is just plain stupid.

SL doesn’t work as a support tool for hundreds of thousands of people, or even tens of thousands. I honestly doubt there will be Lindens at the place every day to help people with their problems. Chances are, they’ll be there 2 or 3 hours a day max and they’ll run as soon as dozens or even more people try to tp into the sim.

The whole idea of a support “place” for a community as large as SL(TM) at a sim that can hold 100 avatars max at a time is just… I believe the current internet slang term is:

    FAIL

  88. Donna says:

@ 88. You don’t even understand what the I-World Team do.
I-World Island will have info kiosks etc. there for when Lindens are not there, the I-World Team are InWorld 24/7 working on LiveChat, InWorld IMs, Support Tickets.

What do you expect? Linden Lab try to give even more ways of support and some idiot just has to come say it’s stupid, wont work. Well isnt it better than nothing?

What you need to do is just not use Second Life if you think it’s service is so bad.

  89. Wiz Nordberg says:

The last month has been a time of tumultuous opinion, problems, pain, and suffering because of software and policy issues.

i-World sounds like a good idea. Inworld music promotion is a good idea. I think LL thinks that fixing the problems and getting back to normal is a good idea too. They’re just having a rocky time at the moment.

So, close your eyes, take a deep breath, think positive and spread good karma throughout the land and hope it overflows into all the areas that need to improve.

I, for one, am getting a bit tired of being negative.

  91. A concerned TG member says:

Why can’t they do anything like this on the teen grid? Seems to me (as a teen) that all the parties, music events, and openings happen on the main grid while the teen grid exists as a place to wait until you’re 18.

  92. Pingback: PT Code » Blog Archive » Second Life: Guerra contra as “Trademarks” causa ameaças.

  93. uh-oh says:

I can see that not being able to TP into the concert due to the sim being full that it was a success. That part of the picture I am excited about. This means there should be more to come. I will just catch the next show. How about taking notes on the good and the bad about this and maybe expand the area that people can TP to to hear this.Add another island etc. Overall I am just happy that LL is trying to promote live music.
“Why can’t they do anything like this on the teen grid? ” Good point A concerned TG member. I have never been on the teen grid, although the adult grid seems to be becoming the teen grid with all the children out here, If there were things like this out there maybe the children would stay on the teen grid where they belong.
Who knows, this may open the door to big name performers putting on concerts. Keep up the good work with this. this is a positive start.

  94. @94: While I was at the event, I was anticipating that people would claim it was a great success just because it was filled to capacity.

An experienced player might know to do stuff like crank settings way down, turn off rendering types, SIT and STAY PUT for the duration, etc., etc., but if you tried to go to the location of the concert and actually interact with the world, it would not have been pleasant.

@82: Actually, dance animations are a client-side effect, so it turns out to be much easier to boogie than it is to walk around. Your dance, once loaded, isn’t really affected by “lag”.

  96. Chris says:

I’m failing to see how this does anything but undermine current volunteers. You’ve taken it from being via support page or Live Help and placed it in world. Why should there be a Help Island filled with helpful volunteers when all you need now is a landmark saying ‘go to I-World’? Will all mentors be briefed on where to pick up their landmark distributor? On Orientation Islands, I understand it – they don’t have access to I-World yet – and personally find them rewarding enough to stick with it. But there seems to be no reason for public HI’s/Infohubs anymore other than to say ‘go to I-World – click here for Landmark’.

And Donna, please please please stop replying to every opinion/post/diatribe. There should be a limit on how many times egomaniacs can post to an individual blog.

  97. shockwave yareach says:

If a Linden higher up should read this, please note the astronomical dissatisfaction with SL at the moment. Ordinarily it would be griefers whose sole joy is ruining everyone elses good times who would be attacking the show. This time, it was your rank and file customers, people who hate griefers and all they stand for. How bad must things be for so many of your customers to be so frustrated with your ineptitude that protesting at a show is the only way they can think of to get through to you?

Please stabilize things soon, before SL goes into the history books as a lesson on how NOT to keep customers or how NOT to grow a business.
