  1. Lillyanne Sawson says:

Hello, Were having Login Problems the least of our worries right now is ANOTHER update

  2. Lillyanne Sawson says:

*twitles her thumbs waiting for Lindens to solve login problems*

  3. Zlad Voom says:

i want to have server code 1.18.xxx back 😦

  4. Argent Stonecutter says:

Thank you for letting people use the existing RC and not forcing the update.

  5. Cat Gisel says:

Thanks for not forcing Dazzle on us 🙂 Dark is so much easier on the eyes. Food for thought, why not have both as options and give us the chance to select our own themes/make them within SL itself, etc. ?

  6. Mikatori Yokosuka says:

Meine Freundin und ich können uns seit dem 19.03.08 nicht mehr einloggen!!! Das finde ich SCHEIßE!!! Wir wollen wieder in SL einloggen können!!!

  7. Richie Freund says:

When I use the AgeVerification in the land-options, no resident without AgeVerification has access to my lands. Even, the people at my access list need the AgeVerification now. Thats oppposite to the statement in your former blogg. Will this be changed again in the future?

  8. Suzan says:

Seems to be a very good update, I am able to use RC/Windlight again. Phew…

Language-bug is gone (able to login with non-english OS)
    Can TP again without crash
Speed is normal again – so usable

    Thanks!!
btw – using Linux Client (Dell Laptop with Ubuntu Hardy Heron, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300)

  9. Vylixan Fallon says:

Nothing wrong with the update it self, only Sl has problems, constant asset server problems, the gray people effect. Clothing still downloading and the ruth problem when logging in.

rezzing and taking objects is also a problem. But the new clients runs fine , nothing wrong with that yet.

  10. Zlad Voom says:

early crash relase, after install: do you want to start Secondlife now? Yes ….. sending crashlog
sign in again, walk 10 meters crash

  11. Thraxis Epsilon says:

@10, If you are running Vista and the RC is crashing before the login screen comes up. Right click on the Shortcut and select “Run as Administrator”

  12. WarKirby Magoijiro says:

    Known issues

    A HUGE MEMORY LEAK

    ;-; whyy

  13. WarKirby Magoijiro says:

And it doesn’t include the LSL glow support yet. It would be good to see a viewer rollout for that so we can code stuff in preparation for the serverside part going live, which was supposed to be today in any case..

  14. Zlad Voom says:

@11 no vista here, never ever
I am really pi* about them and the way they publish updates. either they dont have any clue about operating or they are really lost in the code. Anyway SL is a great game 😉

  15. cube says:

Performace on ATI GPU is horrble now, on every GPU I got laying around.

    it’s unsable on a ATI 3870 with 8.3 drivers.

    It’s horrible with a x1950 pro.

It’s so bad I can not use on any ATI machine I have to use the Nvida machine.

This needs to be fixed Nothing but secound life is broken not even complicated games like UT3 have shader brokeness and horrble performace with ATI 8.3 drivers.

  16. richard says:

is my sex bes going to work?

  17. Arcane Clawtooth says:

@14 It’s a Release Candidate, not the stable viewer. This is NOT an update, the official one is, this is a beta version meant for testing. Just because many of us use it as our default viewer does not change that.

RC’s are supposed to have bugs, otherwise the would be official releases.

  18. Meade Paravane says:

WarKirby, check wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetPrimitiveParams and, for now, use 25 instead of PRIM_GLOW.

  19. Geister Pfeffer says:

Nice, this client crash before i can input name and password directly to the desktop. This was 3 times, now it works 10 minutes and crash again 😀

Please make it little better, i hope for the next update again ^^

  20. U M says:

    oh gesh………..more missing fixes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This last client before this one relased now (current one) wasnt that bad. But where did you get the fixes for this client? never experienced any of these? and I am always online

  21. Geister Pfeffer says:

Oh, forget the machine, Pentium4 2.8 GHZ, 3 GB Ram, Ati Radeon 1600 – 512MB

  22. U M says:

@19 make sure you remove all parts of the last client then insult again. it happens at times

  23. U M says:

    oops INSTALL i meant. sorry

  24. Phantom Ninetails says:

    Hmm, still no VWR-5030..

  25. Tenebrous Pau says:

    @22 / @23 – I think you were right the first time 😀

  26. hugsalot says:

    @7
Age verification functionality is already a controversial issue as it is, and has no bearing on with a RC viewer. But you’re welcome to set your land up so no one can visit your land anymore, good way to waste your money.

  27. Sonja Felisimo says:

@22………LMAO U M you were definately right first time……….install SL and INSULT your computer……………LOOL

  28. U M says:

oh come on 🙂 i know its bad. but the client is not bad for me this time around.

  29. Drew Dwi says:

this seems to be an improvement over 1.19.1 RC1 in the amount of seemingly random crashes that RC1 had.

  30. Kat Hynes says:

Please fix friends online list before I leave my beloved 1.18.5 again! The last time I saw numerous complaints re: this but see no mention of it in the bugs this time around. When it’s required I’ll update but until the fa fa fooie !

  31. Ann Otoole says:

“Unauthorized users could gain access to an SL account after a real user had uninstalled.”

    huh?

  32. Darcy Woller says:

I am sure I just missed this somewhere… but where did Windlight go? I’d love to have it back…

  33. Ryanna Enfield says:

I went all the way back.. to the 18.3.5 viewer and I am now crashing a lot less. I do still crash, but not nearly as often. I highly recommend a visit to Nicholaz website if you still pulling out the few strands of hair you have left. And for all you ATI users.. Sorry SL does not care and has not cared for months now. It is far easier to force you to purchase items that are compatible with their systems, then to make their system compatible for all users. Funny that all the other games I pay to play seem to want to actually make their game compatible with as many different systems as possible.

  34. Ryanna Enfield says:

@31 Yeah like how they just slipped that one in there? Nice of them to not even try to explain.

  35. Cube says:

Performance is horrble with ATI 8.1 8.2 and 8.3 drivers even on the real viewer (Second Life 1.19.0 (5) Feb 28 2008 17:18:12 (Second Life Release)

with my ati 3870 x2 it only is supported by ATI drivers 8.1 or higher.

Graphics option that worked before 8.1 on older ATI cards do not work either.

and with this viewer it is worse than ever.

OH and the AgeVerification system is still a horrble idea.

  36. H H says:

I Sure hope my inventory wont load another 3 hours again,it’s annoying with only 20000 items, Last RC ate my stuff once too often so lets hope this ones not as hungry as it was. Windlight is great for performance and looks but it was still better when there was a separate wiever for it, had no sucking bugs that i can tell and everything ran smoothly….Well good luck,i guess we all need it.

  38. B B says:

I hope they will fix the sudden crashing of SLVoice on Linux in 1.19.1. It runs fine in 1.19.0 but crashes after a few minutes on the new version, see:
    https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5745

  39. Asriazh Frye says:

@31 ““Unauthorized users could gain access to an SL account after a real user had uninstalled.”

    huh?”

It means that if you set the client to “remember my password” and then uninstall SL, someone could go to your PC, reinstall SL and would be able to log into your account, if they know your AVs name, cause the saved password never got deleted during uninstall. 1.19.1 RC2 fixes that.

    -Asriazh

  40. Vivienne says:

“Funny that all the other games I pay to play seem to want to actually make their game compatible with as many different systems as possible.”

Right. Stiff competition there. But the significant loss of premium members during the past few months shows that even LL cannot force anyone to eat their buggy winded light. I only wonder who aquired this silly windlight crap for the lab.

  41. Sedary Raymaker says:

    @32: “where did Windlight go?”

Install this release candidate and you’ll have it back.

  42. Anj Flanagan says:

I downloaded the client and saved it to my hard drive. The download was almost instantaneous. After several attempts, I still getting the following message:

“Error opening file for writing: C:/Program Files/SecondLifeReleaseCandidate/wrap_oal.dll” Hitting Ignore brings up one file after another.

Is there a problem with the download?

  43. Nad Gough says:

I may organize an Easter Lag hunt, but it will prolly be too easy.

  44. Ron Crimson says:

Anj @ 42: if your download was “almost instantaneous” it’s pretty safe to say you never got most of it. Just download it again. Even on a superfast broadband connection (I get >800KB/sec on good days) it takes maybe half a minute to get the file.

  45. lozlo peng says:

    can’t log on

  46. Iexo Bethune says:

@ Cat Gisel: That’s the plan. Dazzle is both testing a new UI skin, and working on the code to allow multiple UI skins, or even custom UI skins, to be used.

This out of memory error doesn’t surprise me, Lindens. I’ve been reporting memory leaks for a while on the Jira, but you keep closing them for no good reason since I provided all the information available. They might be related to this issue.

  47. uh-oh says:

I have been using this and here is what I have noticed so far. Friends list was loaded from the moment I logged in, inventory is all there not taking forever to load, group notices started working with out timing out. Also I am curious, did this come with some updated ATI drivers? Everything is crystal clear now and has very sharp and clear images. I thought I had the latest driver since I downloaded mine from the website two months ago. This is great so far. I am not experiencing lag either.
I will run this one for awhile and file reports if I find any issues.
This is great. I hope this gets us one step closer to implementing IDV so we can get the kids off the adult grid and back on the teen grid where they belong. Adding a persons name to the land to get around age verification is a horrbile idea. it will be misused by clubs, role-play sims and other places.Show your I.D. at the door to get in period.
    Woo Hoo ,loving it.

  48. Hewitt Huet says:

Ya know, I really love my little ATI Radeon 9550 from ‘back in the day’ (256M). Ya know, it seems every other app I have except these windlight viewers and some recent viewer releases….*ahem*….also love my video card.

Paying the meager tier that I do, alas, I cannot muster the pennies to buy myself an N-Vidia card – no sir, I dont buy the cheap stuff either – so of what use is windlight to me? You can’t make it more adaptable? As stated, what were you thinking then, when you bought out windlight?

    Not cool.

  49. Foxxe Wilder says:

Well now I have NO friends listings on EITHER viewer!

(I don’t consider Dazzle as a valid viewer as all it is is the current release with an ugly skin on the frames – no improvements)

  50. Sling Trebuchet says:

    @47
“This is great. I hope this gets us one step closer to implementing IDV so we can get the kids off the adult grid and back on the teen grid where they belong.”

The kids on the adult grid lied to get on.
Those kids will supply a parent or a john_doe details to verify and unlike with the abuse of a credit card, the owner of the details/card has no way of knowing that it has happened.
IDV is insane as it presumes that the person submitting verification details is the person to whom the details refer.
C’mon! Smell the coffee! The kids on the grid will continue to be on the grid. There will be more kids verified than there will be adults.

Hey, maybe this is the plan….the GPU required! Maybe most kids don’t have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 in their bedroom?
    Cunning 😉

  51. Whisper says:

awesome build, thank you very much, stability is much improved. 🙂

  52. Arcane Clawtooth says:

@48, you can find NVIDIA 8600’s cheap right now, I got a 512mb pci-e one for only $83. I will never bother with ATI again, all I’ve ever had from them was trouble, nothings ever compatible with them anymore.

  53. Argent Stonecutter says:

I appreciate having the classic clouds as an option, but it should probably be off by default or it should be directly in the World->Environment settings.

  54. chatto tomsen says:

I hope this fixes the mouseover thing. I used to get useful information about stuff set for sale just by mousing over it. Now I have to edit everything to find out what it’s called, who made it, how much it costs…

I minor thing but it niggles…

  55. Foxxe Wilder says:

    Sling Trebuchet:

I TOTALLY AGREE 2000 percent!! This time last year, SL was a virtual paradise, (until the anti-gambling thing started up).

It’s been on the downward slope ever since and personally, unless LL does something REALLY GOOD for the grid, I don’t see it surviving for long.

1st kill the economy… then, let in the children that can only see SL as a mere GAME and use it to explore public torture, slavery, war etc….

Secondlife STOPPED being a paradise, now it’s like the internet – any jackoff can just WALK in freely – no security – no personal safety… no online help… nothing….

in the words of Ronnie James Dio:

“When you listen to fools, THE MOB RULES!”

  56. Argent Stonecutter says:

The linden has started moving up against the dollar again in the past week, and my sales (which don’t involve any torture, slavery, or combat) have been pretty good. Where do you get the idea that the economy’s doing badly?

Of course they shouldn’t let any jackoff walk in with a dozen griefer alts, but it’s more than a year since they let that start happening…

  57. Sling Trebuchet says:

Anyway, kids or no kids, this new RC is crashing on me – which is unusual in my experience, naybe because I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800. Crashed on 4 Tps in a row, then a TP worked but crashed when I started to move.
But let’s not wet ourselves. It’s a RC.

    But ..

@17 “..RC’s are supposed to have bugs,..”
Nope. Nothing is *supposed to have* bugs.
It’s just that we shouldn’t be surprised if an RC has bugs, even if it shouldn’t have any.

There’s an old software project control joke:
Let’s get the code written as quickly as possible so that we’ll have more time to find the bugs afterwards. 🙂

  58. Anny Helsinki says:

Nad, hope i can listen to you on easter :))

  59. hugsalot says:

Okay lets go though software development 101.

“Alpha” versions are supposed to have bugs, and are open to new functions and features. But only a small number of users get to use it, usually the software coders themselves only have alphas.

“Betas” are exactly the same as Alphas but it’s sent out to a broader range of users for feedback on it, as well as new ideas for features and functions.

RCs are finalized code sent out to broader number of users to test out to see if there are any outstanding “show stopping” bugs that need to be fixed. New functions and features are closed in this version.

An RC ‘shouldn’t’ have any bugs because it’s been though all the quality assurance tests. So as a “RC” it becomes the official release version with out any change done to it, short from changing the version number.

  60. Ryu Darragh says:

#32 Darcy.. don’t know if anyone mentioned it previous to this, but the RC we are all praising/griping/kibbitzing about here *is* the Windlight client. All the hoopla is over and we are one layer from having WL on all clients instead of 2.

And. if Dazzle is not to your liking, you can customize the bejabbers out of it and sell “skins” made for it, if it works the way I’m told. Just that creating a “skin” is easier than re-writing code, but only a *little* easier.

  61. Ciaran Laval says:

“I hope this gets us one step closer to implementing IDV so we can get the kids off the adult grid and back on the teen grid where they belong.”

How naive are you? I have a bridge and some nice mainland to sell you.

  62. Argent Stonecutter says:

@57: Nicely put: “Nothing is *supposed to have* bugs. It’s just that we shouldn’t be surprised if an RC has bugs”.

    Words of wisdom, Sling.

  63. Tiny Mind says:

Everyone who is SICK and TIRED of the crappy Windlight enabled viewer handling of Local Lighting and how it makes your Avatar look like a bowl of mush… get into the game and do a Classified search for ‘Body Lights’. There is a product sold in there that cost around L349. I know… I know… but it is WORTH it. I am not involved with the author of that product but I tell you… it LIGHTS UP your AV as good as the old viewer used to do. Just wear it and those saggy, baggy faces are GONE forever. Has a HUD to adjust the Intensity and Radius of the Lighting-Prims as well. Works GREAT!

Another fine Tip to make your struggle through this dirt-road called, “Second Life” a bit easier.

    –Tiny Mind.

  64. Arcane Clawtooth says:

@57 “It’s just that we shouldn’t be surprised if an RC has bugs, even if it shouldn’t have any.”

Said much better then I did and totally what I meant. I’m just tired of people who claim LL is “pushing Windlight down our throats” when it’s not even a required download.

@63 The reason for this is that the old viewer treated every avatar as a light source (who’s idiot idea was that?) so in Windlight they fixed that bug. But that means you’re going to have to get a modern skin that isn’t compensating for a years-old bug that should have been fixed long ago.

As for face lights, the only people that use those are the folks that are so vane they NEED everything looking at them at all times. Sad people really, I feel sorry for them.

I can’t wait until Windlight is the only tech out there so we can move past this stuff.

  65. Lupercaleb Walcher says:

    lol at 16

  66. Lysana McMillan says:

#63 – Shapes by Zada has a Windlight-friendly facelight for free.

  67. coventina dalgleish says:

Yes lets all run out and buy lights, make a prim box preferred go to features turn on the lights then adjust to your own desires no lag producing scripts needed then wear where ever you like. After all of that edit it again make phantom and drop an alpha texture on the texture block and you have a free easy to use lighting system for your body. Lets face it this is a release candidate, if you do not want to participate in the testing use the current viewer. This one is not ready for prime time, but then neither is the normal viewer I seem to never get the friends list in it but it pops in the RC.

For all of you who have not been here since 04 there are those that say it was a great system then well if you like to walk through the game for 5 minutes and have a frame rate of 3 or 4 I suppose it was. Back in the days if you had 20 avatars on a sim the only thing you could do is look around slowly, certainly not move oh and the other avatars did not animate. In those days a conover reading of 600 to 800 was considered a kick ass sim. So while we endure the progression of viewers I do see tremendous progress but with many limitations. Oh and one final item you had better get a program to watch the temperature on your GPU they like to run at 60 C the RC seems to think 79 C is an optimum setting thus requiring more cooling. At 80 C your GPU will last for awhile, less than 3 months if you are lucky.

One more rant before I shut up SCRIPTER’S please do some lag test on your scripts I have observed some massive lag producing scripts lately some left overs from early in the game one that comes to mind is a texture animation script that uses vectors for moving the texture. I have seen it use in water quite a lot and it produces quite a lot of use time – from .5 to 1 ms. We only have 23.3 ms of frame time before lag sets in and for 1 item to take this much reduces the grid performance. I suspect the major lag creation in the game is a result of scripts that just use too much time. An example a friend gave me some boots great looking but they had over 400 scripts in them well to say the least when 3 of us wore them on a class 5 server with no lag it crashed fortunately when we informed the maker he took the care to adjust them for good operation. So in short we derive most of the lag in the game from the grid attempting to handle poorly written time consuming scripts.

  68. Ann Otoole says:

this IM window tab behavior is killing me.
needs to flash until clicked or something. i’m missing responses in a timely fashion. very poorly thought out UI behavior from a business perspective.

    New CEO please.

  69. Arcane Clawtooth says:

@57 “It’s just that we shouldn’t be surprised if an RC has bugs, even if it shouldn’t have any.”

  70. Urantia Jewell says:

    @67 Ann Otoole

To approximate the old tab flashing go to:
Advanced>Debug Settings, change buttonflashCount to 999999.

    Works for me 🙂

  71. Cold Spitteler says:

why isnt the snapshop preview resizable.. its so small now you cant see ANY detail

  72. Mairead Fitzgerald says:

    TO coventina dalgleish —

““Out of Memory error” on Windows after teleporting to multiple locations in a row

    * If this issue is too bothersome, please use RC1 so you can continue to provide feedback on 1.19.1.”

Oh joy, a new memory leak bug that got put aside for everything else..

  74. Tanja Courtois says:

I had many of the problems listed in the previous comments until I downloaded a newer driver for my video card.
I think many of you will be surprised to find out how well SL works if you take the time to update your own software.

  75. Sean Heying says:

    Thanks for fixing VWR-5460 🙂
Thanks for also putting the source code up on the system for us to grab!

    Great Stuff.

I echo the calls for improvements to ATI on MAC. The performance is really sub-par, even with shaders off once any complexity (such as two avatars ot alpha surfaces) appears in the scene.

  76. Melissa Melnitz says:

Why do people say its unusable with ATI cards? I have a X1950XT 256mb and its running on this latest RC just fine…

  77. So I downloaded this version, and something new is happening. When I try to rez physical cubes from my inventory, they fall beneath the floor I am standing on. This was not happening the prior night, using the previous RC version.

Time to visit the JIRA I guess. 😛

  78. concerned says:

A lot of issues are due to older versions of SL messing up,Note for Lindens you need a good removal tool that completely removes SL.
You release far to many unstable versions and asking us to test RC too yet if something messes up normal uninstall/reinstall will not cure the issue a corruption caused.

  79. Bato Brendel says:

#13 Glow wsa a server update which was pulled out.

#40 Vivienne all you do is whine, no-wonder you never put your last name up. Im running a 2800+ AMD Athlon XP with only a 6800 card and WL has better FPS this the normal client.

#63 Dunno what you talking about how about filling out a JIRA and including some photos. BTW I know exactly what you are talking about with them body lights and you know what they suck. I dunno how many times Ive shown up somewhere and people are nothing but ia big white BLOB of light cuz they have no clue what ‘gamma’ settings are btw I run at exactly 1.00 and have no problems.

#71 its not “new” its a ‘known problem’ it was in 1.19.1.0

If you got nvidia try using the evil 169.21 drivers people shunned from them before cuz there was OpenGL call issues they have been fixed. so try’m out. you can allways roll back if needed.

As for some of the more ‘open minded people’ have said SL is OpenGL which is multiplatform its not easy to make things completely compatible for every single platform. Atleast they are trying, How many other games are constantly trying to add new content and constantly try to improve their look. Its RC people its not a final release you dont like stop griefing and dont use it let the people who actually are willing to help the community as a whole find and talk about the problems.

  80. Madagascar Few says:

So, when are we getting the RC where stolen content gets removed, as opposed to the current version, where someone protesting skin theft gets suspended for “griefing?”

I can’t WAIT for that one!

  81. I would like to be able to search for people using one letter for each name, or at the least, one letter for one name or the other.

I’ve found it useful at times to check for all the A* Lindens, all the B* Lindens, etc.

Are accounts allowed to use one character names?

    KNOWN ISSUES
    * Serious memory leaks.
    * Grid instability and poor performance
    * Teleports fail quite regularly, especially under heavy load
    * Sim performance varies wildly (NOT due to client content either)
    * Low FPS
    * Serious texture latency
    * World maps are very slow loading
    * Crashes and viewer hangs and freezes
    * Ongoing friends list issues
    * Group chat totally borked
    * Group Notices not getting to all members of a group
    * Random animations starting out of nowhere (and no, not an attack)
    * Sailing off into void space after crossing a sim line
    * Did we mention crashes? Why yes, yes we did.
    * Major bugs not being corrected month after month, year after year (prime example: llTargetOmega)
    * LL spending time on items no customers really want or care about (prime example: Dazzle).
    * LL totally ignoring customer voting results and @#$# well doing what they want anyway (prime example: voice… which was majorly voted AGAINST by LL customers).
    * Absurdist pricing on sims and land (namely: $295 and $350 a month for a piece of virtual land is ridiculous. The only thing it does is stuff LL’s pockets with $$$ and keeps most people for being able to afford a sim).
    * Total failure of LL to prevent minors from entering the grid, resulting in continual hassles with immature children (not that some of the “adults” are any more mature… it just adds to the problem and drama).

… and the list goes on and on and on.

Why list these things? We’re not just griping. We’re listing these things to point out issues that Second Life customers deal with every single day… issues that Linden Lab continues to ignore (or put on the back burner, or “it bothers us too” into the obscurity pile) year after year.

And then people wonder why there are constant gripes on the blog.

    That would be why.

Sure I have a few bugs but nothing that stopped me from exploring, mentoring, or building. Then again I’m running a trusty Geforce 7950 which seems able to take anything SL throws at it in stride. So for all of those having problems sometimes it may not just be SL, you may have some other gremlins running around your system. Your probably shouldn’t have let any food out after midnight!

    huh?”

It means that if you set the client to “remember my password” and then uninstall SL, someone could go to your PC, reinstall SL and would be able to log into your account, if they know your AVs name, cause the saved password never got deleted during uninstall. 1.19.1 RC2 fixes that.

@83 I am getting so sick of the blame getting shifted to our own computers. did it ever occur to use that these are the first things we checked for?

there is nothing wrong with my computer or ISP both have been checked several times.

there are problems with the viewers.

not every one can afford to upgrade to a blazing fast fast computers.

LL should make a down graded version of the SL Viewer for older computers.

I’v said it before and I’ll say it again, Sl is getting so that the only way to play it is to upgrade to a blazing fast high peformance computer.
and if this is that case, a LOT of people will have to stop playing SL.

  88. Masuyo Aabye says:

to #85, i have a 3 year old computer which is able to run this at near top settings with no issues.
People have to realise that intergrated graphics are useless for gaming.
you can pick up a geforce 6800 dirt cheap these days, you don’t need a blazing fast computer to use it, you just need to ditch the intergrated graphics.
and as a side note, why should LL stop development of windlight because a few people have such old computers the can’t run it? the majority of people i meet are running it just fine. my main gaming rig runs it perfectly and doesn’t even flinch.

  89. Cherry Czervik says:

Chaps, can you include the link to the actual download when you make these announcement please? There’s other embedded links so … makes sense!

@86 People often don’t accept that the games industry is running considerably higher requirements and that gamers will UPGRADE their PC on a more regular basis – on the premise that an enjoyable gaming experience comes at this price. People running SL on a system suited to chug out Word are not going to have a good experience unless they smell the coffee. SL should stay luddite? Sorry but no … the world moves on.

    KNOWN ISSUES
    * Serious memory leaks.
( one on the biggest and sorly fixed bug LL seems to have given up on this but instead gives a viewer named DAZZLE(sorry the movie was better ))

    * Grid instability and poor performance
(Well havent then continue to had hardware? but were is the tech support to help things get better still a miss withe grid monkeys)

    * Teleports fail quite regularly, especially under heavy load
( will the new nodes should fix this issue? or has it? in all fairness the grid monkeys has have been doing around the clock banana.oops i mean rebuilding of the nodes with the new IP nodes….we need to wait and find out)

    * Sim performance varies wildly (NOT due to client content either)

( well whould you expect? they are not orangzed at all…..you expect them but 3 1/2 years lets they are as lost as some lindens trying to sugar cover a badly buildt view with dazzle? still much much work needs to be done here. But we are going in the right direction.)

    * Low FPS

(don`t turn on voice? many don`t these days and fps are up where they should be. voice is just a waste of human resources and money.)
    * Serious texture latency
( this has been going on for ever it seems. Hut the H4 should solve this……………….Or wil it.)

    * World maps are very slow loading

(become use to it it doesnt matter anymore)

    * Crashes and viewer hangs and freezes

( again bad code bad work bad understanding how the client needs to be insync withthe servers to allow playable not crashabilty8 the lindens still don`t understand )

    * Ongoing friends list issues

( does this matter anymore? they said “RATES were a big reason why the game lag for some……………..but was it? No………again blame us not the builders.

    * Group chat totally borked
( and people want unlimited groups? OMG forget it .for now atleast. until they learn to scale the game better then just taking rates off the players…………just more BS because they don`t know what is really going on.)

    * Group Notices not getting to all members of a group

( Laughs………..don`t expect this to work but we have pretty water right? )

    * Sailing off into void space after crossing a sim line

    * Major bugs not being corrected month after month, year after year (prime example: llTargetOmega)

    * LL spending time on items no customers really want or care about (prime example: Dazzle).

CORRECT why even bother butting a skin kit on this? its still a eye sore and a total waste of human resources…..but then what you ecpect fromn rah raah people it their job…..Don`t expect half way worth of logical lets get real and start with fixing instead of playing with 1grade coloring sets shell wellllll.. don`t count on it!!!!!!!!!!)

    * LL totally ignoring customer voting results and @#$# well doing what they want anyway (prime example: voice… which was majorly voted AGAINST by LL customers).

((Blame the PR department fr this nightmare voice hahaha its own server and doesnt lag the sever that runs th egame.well true. but if X amount of users are using voice **** right the voice wil cause crashing lag etc…….. the rah rah lindens did a wonder lie to the users in to thinking its the next great thing since vedio. and we all know how the start of vedio went don`t we………..)

    * Absurdist pricing on sims and land (namely: $295 and $350 a

( wait it wil get worse next year………..) But LL will have 2 times more paying ad islands then so they wil not care abiut the small user………)

    * Total failure of LL to prevent minors from entering the grid, resulting in continual hassles with immature children (not that some of the “adults” are any more mature… it just adds to the problem and drama).

( go into any freebie club and sex clud and you find 80% of those eunder 18……….)

Thank you for pointing all these factors out and going away from the rah rah Jira lovers that believe posting numbers and number of bugs will get them a tech job at ( maybe thats why things are so bad to start with )……………….Jira is alittle help but its more of a pain and ego builder tfor those putting countless reports.

  91. Rascal Ratelle says:

    @86&87

My computer and graphics meets the min requirements LL sets out.
My computer runs windlight better then the RC and main viewers. the problems I out lined on my list are problems 60% of SL’s residents are experiencing. memory leaks, lag, texture latency, performance issues are on LL side. my computer has been tested on other gaming platforms such as World of War-craft platforms and other high graphics platforms.
i run a mac OS X. for you windows users, Mac are DESIGNED for high end graphics.

people that run computer that exceed the max requirements are also having problems with SL.

I never SAID LL should stop development of windlight. would be nice if you actualy READ my posts rather then just skin through it.

I said that LL should make a new version of the SL viewer with down graded graphics that will work better on on older computers.

  92. I use linux mainly (but sometimes a Mac), now i can play again, rc0&rc1 was unplayable, now much much better (not like “old” windlight… but better latest 2 RC). log console is full of warning, still unreachable or unknow host, sometimes client freeze due packetloss (expected packet XXXXX but YYYYY received), looking to 1.19.0 windlight there is a lot of street to do, but if i use rc0 and rc1 as comparation this version is really better….

  93. trinity says:

Well… I am still quite hesitating… I would love to download any new version, even a RC, and start exploring what is better and what is not.
But after having enjoyed SL for more than a year without any problems, it turned into a nightmare, because I have been forced to upload a new mandatory version. I have had so many problems with my previous pc, (10 crashes per hour for instance, which is far more serious than just lag, actually), that I decided to migrate to Mac. The version I am running now is absolutely ok, and I’m just AFRAID of new versions. I just don’t want to go through this nightmare again.
Now, my point is : it is ok if people agree to test RC, and I am happy for them if they find an improvement to problems they have been suffering from, or if they can participate in making the RC better before it becomes a “real” Version.

    BUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I would love is : having the choice to stick to a version that fits us ok, and never have to face again ANY mandatory download of a new version.

  99. Besides minor things which are up for discussion the new RC (as well as some older Windlights) have the problem for me that they are

    a) complaining that my hardware is not fast enough (Dell D600 1.4GHz Lattitude with ATI mobility radeon 9000)

    b) brings sudden geometrical artifacts poking out of avatars (like they are wearing large triangles)

And I heared from quite some others that they cant use the Windlight version, so will this effectively block people from SL, or will you provide further support for less demanding viewers?

    El.

  100. trinity says:

Well, I don’t know if the people working on issues are students, or if they are really overpaid…
Students, yes… anyone working on such a software will always remain students, in a way, since it is evolving a lot, and they have to face differnt and new issues every day (every minute ?). They are working on something “alive”, constantly changing, and improving. That’s why yes, you call call them students. They will never have granted knowledge of everything that might happen, and how to resolve it.

To know if they are overpaid or not is not my problem. If they were paid less, the saved money wouldn’t go into my pocket.

Yes, I agree with you on :
“what is that complicated to not change anything” since I have no major issues nowadays, with current viewer. But maybe we are priviledged if we can run SL smoothly. There are a LOT of people experiencing issues, and maybe they are quite happy to know people are working to make improvements. Let’s hope (again) that the new viewer will NOT be mandatory….

When will there be a -stable- version of the official viewer? My computer is up to date and running other 3D programs just fine. But Second Life tanks on simple tasks. 9/10 times I will crash while rotating the camera, checking profiles, putting on clothes and/or prim attachments, and the Release Candidate Client bails out when any function (including search) is used.

Issues such as the memory leaks haven’t been given a second thought, neither have the constantly failing teleports, both of which have gotten WORSE over time.

To be honest neither Havoc 4 OR Windlight are ready. You allowed sim owners to switch over, bad idea. My games tanks if I even set foot in an updated sim. Windlight, well, Windlight wasn’t even done when the viewer was pulled.

If customer feed back isn’t enough for you HIRE professional testers instead of giving us sub standardly coded clients that crash on computers new and old alike.

  106. Cube says:

HArdware skinning, avatar cloth and other option have been broken with secound life on ATI drivers since 7.12 on XP and vista.

IF you have a ULTRA new ATI HD 3000 series card they are not supported with anything less than 8.1.

In the non test viewers it broke the Shader for rippling water and hurt performace and caused crashing and all sorts of other graphic errors.

And yes the cards support this they support Shaders and graphics code nobody is even using yet and all my ATI cards did before version 7.11.

Since all the other stuff I use with ATI 8.3 drivers works flawless and supports all standards I assume It’s Linden labs issues.

All other standard Open GL games work fine quake wars? check, that free game nexuiz Check all code works fine even shader model 3.0 HDR with these drivers. Vertex? Yep they work.

And ATI is supported by everybody in fact in the radeon 9700/6800 it was ATI who worked with microsoft to get the shader model 2.0 standard going while nvida was whining over tuff, so of course they support all GPU standards.

  107. Cube says:

Oh and for the guy who updates his drivers months ago ATI comes out with new drivers every 3 weeks so you are behind check more often.

So far this viewer is working great. Thank you for the heads up on how often ATI releases new drivers. I will have to make updating drivers a monthly thing.
I have noticed that with the IDV restriction turned on it will allow non verified people wearing the same group tag as the lands group to freely come and go. This must be some kind of exploit. I have filed this as a security issue. We cannot have little underage Johnny or Suzy who do not belong out here to begin with, using this loop hole to gain access to adult material.
Another thing I have noticed is that on land with this restriction in place, it is nothing to fly over from the next parcel and gain access when the adult material is above the fifty meter mark. Another exploit that I am sure will be taken advantage of.
This here shows that the ban lines should either be raised to 800m or require IDV at login for all accounts.
Keep up the good work, so far things are running smooth with this viewer.

    Dear Space Rockett,

I have reviewed your account and there are two issues here; one is the unclaimed auction 26203869 in Sababurg, and the other is the you received 397000$ Lindens from a fraudulent source.

In both cases you were notified and action was taken.

The unclaimed auction in November 2007 was reclaimed and you were credited with 80% of the winning amount as per policy at that time. When auctioned land is unclaimed it can be put back up for auction as was done in this case.

The 397000$ Lindens acquired by you from a fraudulent source were assessed and removed from your account June 18, 2007.

I apologize for any confusion, though there is no other action that can be taken at this point with either one of these issues.

    Sincerely,

    Linden Lab

once again your so called “solution” does not solve anything from my point of view, not only is the statement “In both cases you were notified and action was taken” is incorrect you completly failed to be able to view this whole episode fairly.I have on several occassion made it clear that i did not acquire lindens from a fruadulent source, if you accuse me of obtaining lindens in that way I would be interested in knowing who or what is that source,as far as being notified that my land was to be reclaimed, please provide me with the notification as I have not received any such notification to date. Also you have denied me access to my transaction history, you again make the statement “When auctioned land is unclaimed it can be put back up for auction as was done in this case” how much did the land bring at auction ? what is 80% of that amount ? where is the transaction information regarding the sale etc ?
Your apology is meaningless as you have taken my money illegally and you have failed again to put the rights of your customers first.
I will pursue this outside your corrupt and dishonest system.
