  1. Thanks for fixing those things, hope it works……..

  2. Chaos says:

The sky looks allot prettier, and the water glimmers, niiiice

  3. Orlandoo says:

“VWR-5087: Attach To… from inventory ignores selected postion and attaches to stored location.”

Finally I can attach my self-made hats to my head again and don’t loose my paw.

    Thanks for fixing ^^

(Age verification doesn’t work for me, I just see a gray field with no text Oo [RC and normal viewer])

  4. B. Shinobu says:

    Scripted Glow soon?

  5. Suzan says:

Sorry to say.. but (at least under linux) same crap as former RC.

    – Language bug is still present (crashes on Log-In with a non-english OS) — (can start with export LC_ALL=C though)
    – slow as hell
    – unstable as hell (after a few minutes – crash)

With a crash every 5 minutes absolutely unusable. 😦

That is so sad because before the “unite” of RC and Windlight, both viewers works very well.

  6. Ann Otoole says:

@4 – can’t have scripted glow without the server side components.

i want this too but i dread the prospects of finding out what 20 things are broken when 1 new feature is added.

maybe we will see it on the beta grid pretty soon.

  7. Kii Lilliehook says:

Yeah, Particles are working properly, VWR-4899 is gone, so I can blow up things again:) Thank you!

  8. RachelO Orochi says:

Lawl. Wonder if this will slow the hissy fits.

  9. Satori Taringa says:

Unable to navigate the new Seach All windows…
page and scroll bars are non-functional.

  10. It is not available but mandatory.
    Thanks for fixes.

  11. DXW Undertone says:

Can’t log into about half the regions, crashes on TP, won’t handshake… grid wide problems or to the new client?

  12. la le lu says:

it would be nice to keep a non-windlight viewer supported.

  13. Funky Monnett says:

I love how windlights makes that cool water glow.. only it would be nice not to see water everywhere aound me .. on places where land should be .. ?!

  14. Photon Pink says:

@6 Ann, If you spent as much time on JIRA as you do on this blog and forums you would know that the server side changes for scripted glow are suposed to come in the next rolling restart. Break 20 things? thats just totaly absurd. Please stop trying to indictrnate impressionable ignorant people into your cult of whiners here.

  15. Ann Otoole says:

@14 – lmao … i hardly ever post here anymore. it is really a waste of time. i gave up on jira for the most part. if i have a reproducible defect i will post it but asking for features on jira is unproductive time.

oh and i get the emails so i know what torely had to say about it. you can easily see who is watching a jira by clicking on the watches link. guess you didn’t know that. same for voters. you can see who voted for a jira entry by clicking the votes link.

as for next rolling restart… that is debatable. the “next” rolling restart happened yesterday and scripted glow did not make it in. stuff happens, schedules slide. it will make it when it makes it.

  16. Jennifer says:

Finally they are doing something about the groups. I hope they will fix the “member can keep spamming the group after beeing ejected’ and add a group BAN. We need one desperately!

  17. Nalirra says:

Same issue as DXW. The only region i can log into is my home region. I can’t tp anywhere, I crash in the process. I dont believe this is specifically a windlight/release candidate viewer issue though; I’m also unable to login to other regions in the standard client, and am crashing during the teleport handshake process. Sounds more like server software.

  18. Well this one is as unusable as was for me. 3.5FPS and it doesn’t matter if my graphics settings are maxed out or at absolute minimum. Turn on all the options, turn off all the options, nothing seems to fix this problem. Is it because of the ATI graphics? Is it some terrible flaw in the rendering engine? Forgot to carry the 1? I can’t understnd how 1.19.0 can run so smoothly while 1.19.1 is so slow.

Mac OSX 10.4.11, 2GB ram, ATI HD2600, 256MB graphics ram.

  19. Blinders Off says:

PLEASE! MORE EYE CANDY! Who cares if groups can chat, we can teleport without crashing, crash regularly, or lag to a standstill.. as long as SL LOOKS GOOD!

  20. ishtarangel micheline says:

When your putting uploads, please please have it to where you can have the custom windlight settnigs youve created for images and shots imported. I have to recreate each setting over and over and really woudl lik eto see this

  21. Bato Brendel says:

If you are having stability issues with RC 1.9.0.x and using nVidia and dont have 169.21 drivers (aka the evil drivers) give them a try it resolved alot of stability issues with RC for me.
Help out SL learn to use and report bugs into JIRA

  22. Tiny Mind says:

“” I love how windlights makes that cool water glow.. only it would be nice not to see water everywhere aound me .. on places where land should be .. ?! “”

Haha! The water-around-the-SIM problem is so prevalent in WL, running-joke with the Windlight-enabled SL Viewers is: “Two thumbs-up from the entire Cast of “LOST.”

Tiny, the Mind Melt of cheese-sandwiches.

  23. Dekka Raymaker says:

freezes SL viewer on mac at log out, need to force quit, on this new version and was the same the last version.

  24. Zorin Frobozz says:

Auto-update fails; it stops about 3/4 of the way through and tells you to download manually.

  25. U M says:

I was noting pulses of fps freezing last night. I hope this is corrected in this update today. Thank You.

  26. Kahiro Watanabe says:

    @11 That is a grid-wide problem.

@14 Well new features always bring problems voice came with lot of issues. And now it’s clear thw windlight is bringin much more issues, so despite @6’s irony, she is right in part…

  27. Keiko Rau says:

Ugh. Glow…. and scripted soon?? *sigh* (I havnt been keeping up).

The guy next to me owns quite a bit of land, and seems to have taken glow to heart… I need prim sunglasses just to look out my window, and everything is maxed until, from a distance (such as my house) its just a shimmering saturated eyesore.

Great in small doses. but I really do think the intensity can be set way too high until the prim is nothing but blurry mass of light without any definition. I’d go back to 1.19.0, but thats just delaying the inevitable upgrade to avatar blindness.

  28. This latest download seems to be an improvement.
Thank you for your efforts! ,,,=^_^=,,,

  29. DXW Undertone says:

A follow up on my comment, some investigating makes me think a major router took a hit. Until other routers went around it, it was dropping packets with an excessively high rate. So geography seemed to take part in the problems, SL just had bad luck in the timing. was also unavailable for myself, but not others in the same time.

    …probably this one:

Can’t blame LL for data loss when it doesn’t make it to their system.

  30. U M says:

No fix for the crash report NOT sending data back to LL? Or is this done on purpose :/

  31. Kelly Boyington says:

  32. Sean Heying says:

Please give those of us who hardware performs at 9fps with shaders on a classic water look back.

That way we can turn off shaders and not be offended by the smooth lightblue texture that slides over the ocean.

  33. Kopilo Hallard says:

Scripted glow has been said to be in server update 19.2…

    “SVC-1764” Hoo!

    Thank you for these fixes.

I’d like to see some more hardware support for linux voice, can’t wait for RC2.

  34. Kopilo Hallard says:

    omg, voice is finnally working!

  35. WarKirby Magoijiro says:

yaaaay. Particles are finally fixed ^___^

  36. Gillian Waldman says:

I’m having a lot of trouble with this one, sadly. Lots of crashes while trying to log out – but worse, freezing for sometimes up to a minute and then when it recovers, FPS have permanently dropped to unusable levels. I had no real problems with Windlight, so not sure what the problem is with this.

Overall FPS are still lower with atmospheric shaders on (by 10 FPS on average)…but that is not new.

  37. Xavier Felwitch says:

Woohoo… thanks for the fixes, and all your hard work.

i’ll be downloading it when i get home from work 🙂

  38. Johnny Mann says:

  39. Nadine Neddings says:

    @ 38

SHIFT-Copy still works for me. *shrugs*

  40. Tiny Mind says:

Face-lights are STILL a problem with Windlight in this version. What happens is that you have a two-prim light setup. Under NORMAL SL view that can be quite bright in intensity. Same character logs on with Windlight, the value of the lights has dropped more than half, leaving their face and skin pale and musty, and they are not a Vamp!

But here is the thing. if they highlight the Prims that cast the lights and hit EDIT… then the full value of the light’s luminance-level suddenly RETURNS to the true light-values it orginally has! And then when they close the Edit-Box… the same LOW LEVEL of face-lighting takes over again, returning the skin to that Pale, washed-out image the WL Viewer is famous for. So, the LIGHTING is there, but you can only SEE it at full-intensity when the Lighting-Prim is selected in EDIT mode. Gah…

Just can’t WIN… with buggy WINdlight.

  41. This one seems more stable. No crash for couple of hours. Havent tried snapshoting though, that was a risky thing to do in previous release.

  42. Zlad Voom says:

still crash here every 5 min SL is unuseable for me since server update to

  44. WarKirby Magoijiro says:

    I love this client.

Can we please make that the last time particles get broken?

  45. Balpien Hammerer says:

    1. A drop in frame rate, about 10%. (NVidia 8600m GT 256MB)
    2. Particles are rendered much better than the previous WL based release (they were nearly invisible), though not nearly as good as the non-WL releases.
    3. Shift-Copy is broken,
    4. The islanding effect remains horrid. You really need to fix that.
    5. Wow, what’s up with glow. It seems much more overstaurated than previous WL releases.

Switching back to the std client.

  46. Tegg B says:

You mean don’t you? Because I have been using RC now for nearly a week………
Please get the numbers right as not to confuse us.

  47. Rascal Ratelle says:

    * Grid instability and poor performance
    * Teleports fail quite regularly, especially under heavy load
    * Sim performance varies wildly (NOT due to client content either)
    * Low FPS
    * Serious texture latency
    * World maps are very slow loading
    * Crashes and viewer hangs and freezes
    * Ongoing friends list issues
    * Group chat totally borked
    * Group Notices not getting to all members of a group
    * Random animations starting out of nowhere (and no, not an attack)
    * Sailing off into void space after crossing a sim line
    * Did we mention crashes? Why yes, yes we did.
    * Major bugs not being corrected month after month, year after year (prime example: llTargetOmega)
    * LL spending time on items no customers really want or care about (prime example: Dazzle).
    * LL totally ignoring customer voting results and @#$# well doing what they want anyway (prime example: voice… which was majorly voted AGAINST by LL customers).
    * Absurdist pricing on sims and land (namely: $295 and $350 a month for a piece of virtual land is ridiculous. The only thing it does is stuff LL’s pockets with $$$ and keeps most people for being able to afford a sim).
    * Total failure of LL to prevent minors from entering the grid, resulting in continual hassles with immature children (not that some of the “adults” are any more mature… it just adds to the problem and drama).

… and the list goes on and on and on.

Why list these things? We’re not just griping. We’re listing these things to point out issues that Second Life customers deal with every single day… issues that Linden Lab continues to ignore (or put on the back burner, or “it bothers us too” into the obscurity pile) year after year.

And then people wonder why there are constant gripes on the blog.

    That would be why.

  48. Rascal Ratelle says:

This new release is less stable then the last one, crash reporter still isn’t working, I keep crashing every five to ten minuets.

  49. Anaxa says:

When i make a snapshot saved to my PC (ill get widescreen photo’s that way) and upload it imediatly the viewer goes poof, hard crash.

    Els, good work Lindens!

  50. U M says:

please fix the crash reporter! its not WORKING AGAIN!

  51. Raven Primeau says:

First impression was good, I used the std viewer while it downloaded this morning, that ran like a bag of *r@p with hippos and waiting and all the bugs associated.

In its place the new RC viewer was much smoother and my friends list worked when it loaded, things actually rezzed quicker and movement was smoother. Unlike some posts here it seems the new RC viewer suits my system better than than the std one.

*Anyone in world sees Evy Gardenvale tell her Raven lurves her so vewy much

  52. Crash: ‘Error parsing skeleton XML file’
…still present in linux stock viewer.

After crash friendlist hippo/waiting still inventory don’t refresh all callingcard, after thias relog and all work (i don’t understand why every crash inventory local cache was cleaned…).

Performance INCREASED LOT LOT LOT MORE since RC0 (near old windlight… but not the same too), finally I don’t see my hair on pelvis after a teleport in a laggy sim 😉

Only little thing about crashlogger, sometimes work sometimes not… I’ve checked “always send” in rpeferences option but i think this isn’t a critical bug that influence viewer usability.

I think too if somebody have some reason to blame should use JIRA, not blog comment, here these comments are unusefull and really annoying for other players…

  53. U M says:

“Only little thing about crashlogger, sometimes work sometimes not… I’ve checked “always send” in rpeferences option but i think this isn’t a critical bug that influence viewer usability.”

Well it seems like LL servers are not allowing them to dump the data reports. Something is very very wrong. Nobody said it was linked to “viewer usability”. But how in the *********** are we suppose to commucated the data from the crash reports if LL is now allowing the data to be given to them………..My crash report is ALWAYS ALLOWED” to send data crash reports.

Jira, you the Ego driven place where everyone dreams one day they be linden…….shakeshead givenup on it. If the present state of the client is at the moment( the results of Jira ) then i wonder how crazy it will be in summer when i bet Jira reports well be 5times greater. Do you think they pay attention to all those reports? OMG the crash reporter doesnt even work. And people think JIRA is the answer. This is very depressing. Is anyone reading or doing their work with reguards of bug reports?

  54. I think crashlogger is clientside, not serverside…

about jira, if nobody use it is impossible it is usefull, but is useless flame or blame here about bug and mistake…

Say “it don’t work” is usefull like wool bikini on top of Everest if nobody supply more information…

In jira all ticket have a reply if submitted with all information (pc configuration, stackdump, step to reproduce)

  55. Digi Tal says:

All ATI HD2300, HD2400, HD2600, HD2900, and HD3800 series owners will get NO hardware skinning or avatar cloth because LL masked those cards in the featuretable.txt file. Remove your card from the section after ‘Avatar hardware skinning causes invisible avatars on x2600… so I masked out other possible bad ones till it’s fixed in 8.2’ and you can enable hardware skinning again. Just make sure you’re using Catalyst 8.2 or 8.3 for this to work.

  56. Daten Thielt says:

People using vista with ATI cards who crash whilst its loading hardware there is a way to fix it. right click the desktop shortcut and go into its properties. in the target line at the end put a space then type in there -noprobe it will stop it from crashing.

  57. Stimpy Tripp says:

“FireGL and Quadros no longer show ‘unsupported’ dialog” is still appearing for me. A OpenGL tester shows OpenGL is indeed installed.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this? IM’s inworld would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Stimpy

  58. U M says:

well either or its LL problem not user side…If crash reports “DON`T” transmit data back. It sure is LL issues and not user. Why all of the sudden a few weeks ago they stop transmitting data? I am not the only one that this is occuring. When you see ” can`t transmit data to LL server” then it say retry ” then the same error message” its sure not my IP or anti software that is stopping it…….A little common sence thinking goes along way.

  59. Sedary Raymaker says:

@27: “The guy next to me … seems to have taken glow to heart”

Unfortunately, that’s an issue of taste. If he wasn’t using glow, he’d probably be using fullbright or particles or prim spotlights or who knows what. Hopefully the novelty will wear off eventually.

  60. Justa says:

I dont know what you have done in the last few hours, but on login It goes so far through the loading and then goes to the crash screen.

It was working perfectly early this morning GMT time… 😦

  61. Apart form regular inventory loss, out of memory error crashes and focus jumping out of text entry boxes due to the invenory retreival failing, this is great.

DOn’t expect me to waste my time filling in that compicated and unusable JIRA, software should be working when released, and not tested for free, LL employees should be testing this stuff before release, not putting it out and wiating for mug punters to tell them what they did wrong.

  62. Xavier Felwitch says:

used it for 5 hours last night without a crash…. well done on the stability issues and keep up the good work. 🙂

  63. Bucky Barkley says:

dont have time to wade through JIRA at the moment but:
quicktime videos stick to the screen, not the object, in 1.19.1 RC 1…

(i.e. yes PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_AGENT is fixed, but now the video acts more like a dialog – does not stay with its prim..)

  64. Xavier Felwitch says:

LOL Ramesses if thats your attitude why the hell are you using a release candidate? they are not making you, this is an oppurtunity for users to help debug a product which will hopefully make it better. if you dont want to contribute to this process, no one if forceing you and maybe the production view is for you. 🙂

  65. Stefan Blinker says:

I want to thank the folks at Linden Labs for fixing the “crash on teleport” bug. RC1 now works for me without crashing constantly. Thank you.
Please keep these fixes in the base code if you would. : )

  66. coventina dalgleish says:

Well after a relatively good start your asset server is in the dumper again just cant make it work for more than a day or so can you

  67. coventina dalgleish says:

In fact the asset servers are so bad tonight that I seem to have a half load of inventory’s right down to personal landmarks missing for my island. With performance like this I see no reason to continue shoving money at you as it has become absurd. The value has been removed from the game when basic items are no longer usable because they do not exist. After a day or so of what appeared to be a success on your part you have managed to piss all over your feet again

  68. Thank you for fixing the “Attach to” bug. That was troubling and I had to use the default viewer with the old lighting in that while. Arg

  70. Stefan Blinker says:

Can anyone provide a work around for my eyes being dark like a possessed demon?
I’m sure it’s cool for some role playing, but I’m not particularly interested in vampire/demon/whatever role play, Is this the ‘asset server’ problem that others are talking about? Thanks.

  71. @ 70

If it’s the same thing I had happen to me in the past there is a way to turn them back if they are modify.
If in edit appearance you change a slider of your eyes like the color for example (not the eye shape) and save then the black should be gone and and afterwards you can go reverse the change you applied if needed.

  72. U M says:

Didnt they say group Im was fixed? Still getting errors……

  73. Lora Chadbourne says:

Why can we not choose a preset to be the default we want to use? Every time I log in, I have to go into Advanced Sky and reselect Coastal Sunset, which is the environment I prefer.

I’d much rather have my client just remember which preset and settings I used last and open SL with those.

  74. space rockett says:

Seems to me like i arrived in one of George A. Romano films “Night Of The Living Dead” people seem happy to let lindens do as they please regardless of the cost to their integrity, I Would like to congratulate Lindens for their amazing brainwashing exercise they call Second Life.I too was a zombie sleeping walking to the Linden tune.No longer !!!
    Wake up people !!!!!

    Space Wide Awake Rockett.

  75. coventina dalgleish says:

This applies to all viewers which then means it is the base program that runs this pos. Animations that were carefully crafted last week are now just junk I grow weary of a system that does maintain consistency this makes it impossible to build with any accuracy LINDENS stop with all the crap and add ons fix the game I for one am growing sick of you total incompetence. The animation I am talking about was an end looping animation with the loop at 88.33 percent it now has lost all reference to this location thanks a lot perhaps you should go work for the government Sick and tired of talking to the wind.

  76. Raven Primeau says:

My heart goes out to all who have even tried to seriously build or run any kind of business, since this last release SL is worse than I have ever known it. I have never ever ever had crashes in anything with out of memory crashes till the last few weeks.

Even early euro mornings with under 36000 ppl on line it was lagged, unplayably slow and unco-operative. To think LL want to make this pile of poo a compulsory viewer update beggars belief.

All weekend it’s been dire, souring what fun we could wring from wasting our hours and money here. Twas a struggle to stay on line with my friends and loved ones let alone indulge in anything.

It was so sh@t it was quicker to tp into somewhere, log out and back in than let it load on its own accord!! WTF LL are you playing about at, all we ask is a reasonably pleasant and stable envirionment to justify our US$ input.

  77. Sandie Rhode says:

has anyone else noticed that scuplties are not rendered correctly with this RC? or is it just me? i tryed turning the graphics to ultra, but the scupted bed i was looking at still had jagged edges

  78. Raven Primeau says:

when rezzing new prims, and applying sculptie textures I noticed many don’t form but just stay as a sphere, I am hoping its client related as I *upgraded* to last night, will try rezzing tonight to see if its just the client or SL itself… suspects the latter tho 😦
