It’s Valentine’s Day and Second Life is aflutter with love! This year, in addition to the Kiss a Linden, Kiss a Volunteer event and an unveiling of a newly revamped Cupid Linden avatar, we invite you all to explore your world in search of the Valentine’s Day Golden Heart!
Here are the contest rules:
- Contest runs from 12:00am PST (midnight) on Friday, February 13 until 12:00am PST (midnight) February 15
- More than 1000 candy boxes are scattered around Second Life
- These Boxes are filled with candy hearts to collect and trade (including special edition Linden Lab hearts)
- Mixed in are 20 special boxes containing golden hearts
- Those who find the golden hearts will win L$5000 credit at Xstreet SL
- Search the world and find them all!
And, we have a second valentine for you….
We’ve made it easier to share the love with a new gifting feature on Xstreet. You can now send a gift directly to any avatar in Second Life. Here’s how:
- Go to Xstreet, find the gift you want and click on it.
- On the right, you will see box, “Choose Payment Method”
- When you click “Purchase as a gift”, write in the recipient’s name.
- Complete your purchase, and the gift will be delivered to the lucky Resident!
Take our Valentine’s Day Survey
In the future, we’ll be adding new features like registries, and we need your help! We’re sending an email survey to a select group of Residents to help shape these features. Take the survey and opt-in to a focus group so we can make this product serve your needs.
So send a little love this Valentine’s Day, and make this the year when you don’t have to say, “it’s in the mail”. Of course, you can always claim Friday the 13th….

1. Eligibility. Contest is open to all Second Life® world Residents (“Residents”) in good standing, 18 and older as of the start of the Contest. “Search the world and find them all!” Sure ! maybe if I stay awake 24/7 during 1284 days, I will find these boxes..
Erm… That means 1568 days, if we take crashes and lag into account.

LOVE LOVE LOVE… the hunt is still on! 9 of the 20 GOLDEN HEARTS have been found now. Keep looking; some locations are obvious, others are obscure (and deserve exploration).

We, my SL partner, and I found SL love two years ago in SL and it continued into real and we are very, very happy together! We never knew that this was possible… alright, I’m a big internet fan so I knew internet love was very probable… but who’d have thought we’d have come so far through an online game. Soulmates do exist and we are soulmates and found each other in SL. Wishing everyone a wonderful Valentine’s Day and many more to come!!!

Not to interrupt the lovefest, but–guys, before y’all bought XStreet, there was a gift feature. Mentioning it doesn’t make it new, just means it’s where it always was. We were *always* able to send gifts to other avatars, so I’m somewhat confused on the trumpeting of that ‘exciting new feature’.

Xstreet has had a gifting feature. However both the giver and the receiver had to be activated xstreet accounts. We have made it possible for any Resident to receive a gift, whether they are on xstreet or not. This extends xstreet gifting to everyone. (Emphasis added. -Torley) And since the vast majority of Residents are not activated on xstreet, it’s our gift to you.

16 Golden Hearts have been found now. And WHERE were the most recent ones spotted? Why, in the regions of: ANWR, Nautilus – Byth, Oak Grove, South Channel, Nautilus – Hannibal, Mahulu, and Toggenburg.
That means… 4 MORE LEFT TO GO! It’s not too late to claim a GOLDEN HEART of your own! Only… in Second Life!
(I get a kick out of doing this dramatic announcer thing…)

I used the SL Search tool searched for “Linden” under the category Places. I also searched Linden under category People and went through all the Linden staff picks to find their offices.

blegh, i can’t get inworld this valentine’s day, no choice and completely alone…:(
Nautilus is a beautiful place, and the other places metnioned are wonderful as well!!! This is a great incentive to get out and explore SL, thus appreciating it more for it’s creative beauty…certainly beats going to a random club and asking for sex..lol.

sounds to me like only friends of the Lindens are finding these so-called boxes and the rest of the sl community is beat.

@LadyRose: No, not “only friends of the Lindens”, the GOLDEN HEART winners so far have been a diverse group, including some very new Residents and experienced travelers.
Use the existing locations as clues: Linden locations include Infohubs/Welcome Areas, other Linden-owned properties, even possibly protected Linden Land (scattered nature reserves owned by Governor Linden which you may find simply by flying across SL…). A few seconds looking up culture is helpful.
As mentioned earlier, follow SecondLife on Twitter for updates. 3 more hearts to go… best of hope!

I tried using the gift feature on XStreet and it doesn’t work, told me the person I was gifting had to be registered on XStreet, what gives?

@Arianna: Don’t give up just yet! 2 more out there. Harder to find, yes, but not impossible.
@up to date: There is one small detail: per http://xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=69&mode=&order=0&thold=0 , they need to be at LEAST 1 day old. Does that apply to your case?
@Musimba: Alas, due to more pressing projects, the Linden Chocolate Factory is still under construction. But let me ask the Dept. of Public Works about it.
(Which also begs the question, who’s our Willy Wonka? And would it be a Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp-esque performance, or something else altogether? *chews on an Everlasting Gobstopper and gives the thought pause*)

If anyone has boxes 6 and 7 and would like to trade, I have copies of boxes 4, 5, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16…bingo.

Although I am sad that I never found a golden heart, after hours of searching, I discovered lots of wonderful places! The Moles have been working very hard, and they’ve done a great job!
For those of you looking to fill out your regular heart collection, be sure to visit the Lindens’ various offices in Ambleside – I found half a dozen hearts there!

In the words of Torley ‘yayzerama’ found all 17 boxes.
But does anyone know what the final number is for the box description? It seems the first number (e.g. 1, 1, 0) is how many residents have found the box (without golden heart), the 2nd is for residents with golden heart who found the box, but am still puzzled by the 3rd numbers use.

I was too busy looking for hearts to even think about taking pictures when I was out! But I took lots of landmarks for places I liked so I can go back later – I’ll have to take pics then!
In the meantime, I can tell people who think that all of mainland is a wasteland where they can go to see that they’re wrong. Or maybe I’ll just send them to the asylum in South Channel instead!

Hi Kakurady, the object description increases by 1 as ‘7, 3, 0′ would mean 7 residents have found the box, 3 residents who have golden hearts have found the box but the 0 value remains a mystery to me.
Thanks Linden for the golden hearts search, exploring SL is one of my favourite hobbies especially when you find bounty
Could there possibly be a Magellan Linden search in the near future? I so still want to be his first mate but alas assume he’s in the ‘void’ and missed my IM.

Okay, forgive cluelessness, I’ve the comprehension of a born-yesterday Newbie even tho resident since Aug 07.
Question: I found Box 4, contained a nice selection of hearts, plus one with properties “Golden Heart!” and “RESI Team”. That heart looked different, it had a photo montage image w/sparklygold perimeter, verbiage on reverse side. I suspect the answer is no, but was this one of THE twenty golden hearts?
BTW, Nice Torley image on one of the other hearts, maybe #137.

@Ellie Heartsdale Probably not. If you found one of the 20 golden hearts there will be a special particle effect and messeage. Afterwards the box will disappear.
But it does sound to look like one of the 20 though. Hmm… I don’t think I have that one yet…

I started to take this survey, but I closed it in frustration.
If I recall correctly, the survey was asking me to choose one of a few projects I would like to see implemented on X-Street SL first. There were just a few items listed. I thought two of the items were totally frivolous, but the survey did not allow negative feedback. I did not want to complete the survey, because it would seem like I supported the two projects that I was in no way interested in. It felt as if the survey was optimistically biased like this:
Example:
Do you love fantasy SL weddings all the time and want your girlfriends to know what fantasy wedding gifts you would like? Select one answer:
[ ] Yes! I love SL fantasy weddings!
Or
[ ] Yes! Yes! I totally really really really love SL fantasy weddings!!!
Conclusion:
Please consider structuring future X-Street SL email surveys to also include less super ecstatic feedback, such as:

#56 Yes I seen the find print.
But I do not thank that the Lindens is not going to award The prizes.
I thank we that won will have it in the next week.
After all L$100,000 is a lot of Lindens to print up lol or maybe linden lab is holding off for that stimulus money from the U.S Government.
