A Fix Worth A Thousand Logins
Wednesday, May 16th, 2007 at 5:39 PM by: Chadrick LindenYesterday we blogged about the accounts the Governance and Risk Teams had been temporarily suspending due to inaccurate account info, located here.
While the Terms of Service rule is still in affect, we’ve implemented a change to the way our website works to allow accounts who have been held specifically for this reason, and only this reason, to be able to log into the account page on the website to update their account info. You can do so by clicking this link. That will lead you to your account page where you can click on the”Email Settings” link on the right and update your info.
As both the Risk and Governance Team grow, we have more and more people looking into these types of issues, so accounts that contain inaccurate information are more likely to be held. Please be sure to include accurate contact information when creating alternate accounts, it prevents these extra steps and keeps you on the grid. Best!

This is a good step I think, may reduce griefers as they are less likely to put account info which identifies or links them to another avatar.

Chadrick,
While this is certainly more helpful for people like me who’ve had their accounts suddenly shut down, unfortunately it’s still not solving the issue.
I heard from Robin earlier today that this was implemented, and all it lets you do is get into the system; there’s no new functionality here.
Despite the fact that I registered my alts with correct information (name, address, payment etc) I still have them all on hold. The only difference is the alts use a different, but valid, email address so I can sort them out. I didn’t realize this was a ToS violation.
Unfortunately I still cannot get access to my alts despite changing the email addresses repeatedly. All info that I am able to change, including payment and password, are identical to my main, and the accounts are still on hold.
As I’d mentioned before one of the alts has several hundred USD in its balance from handling a charity function, so I would definitely like them back.
Thanks again for your help however, and especially Robin, but it would be nice if someone would answer the support line as well.

If this isn’t working, please try back in an hour. Some sort of alt account reactivation overload or something. Ops is looking into it.

[...] Chadrick Linden points out that the Risk and Governance teams continue to tighten things up, so we can expect more holds to on accounts with inaccurate information. To make things easier (for them and for the rest of us) they’ve made it possible for accounts that are held because of this to log into the website and change/update their email contact details.
