Grid Reopened

Friday, October 6th, 2006 at 6:30 PM by: Jeska Linden

7:45pm: Login has been reopened and anyone waiting to login should be able to do so at this time. Please note login may be slow while everyone who was waiting logs back in. During the course of our investigation, we also identified a bug on a small number of regions which prevented Residents located there from being able to save their attachements. We were able to fix the issue while the login was restricted. Thank you for your patience during this issue.

7:20pm: Login to Second Life is still restricted to Lindens only at the moment. If you’re still waiting to login, you may want to hop into the Preview Grid until login is opened again. Sorry for any inconvenience and I’ll post more information as it’s available.

6:50pm: We’ve identified the problem and should have it repaired shortly. Thank you for your patience.

6:30pm: There were several reports of self-replicating objects in-world. We are currently investigating. As such, we have temporarily moved to a Lindens-only login. Thank you for your patience while we handle this issue. I will be sure to report back as soon as I have further information.

    Please consider the following:

    1) Scripts may not be created or modified unless there is a valid credit card on record for the account.
    2) Change the ToS to allow you to charge that card a hefty fee in the case of a grid attack.

    Thanks…

You know these “self replicating object” attacks seem to happen with such great frequency its mind boggling to me that LL hasn’t figured out how to stop them yet :( . THis is like the third time this week.

Thanks Jeska! We always appreciate you keeping us informed and updated, as do most of the Lindens!

You need to start doing more about this than you are doing.

I understand you’re working hard, I support what you’re doing, but OBVIOUSLY this is not being handled well. I think you should begin to press criminal charges – not on everyone, but on a select few, perhaps big-time repeat offenders. It’d be enough to spook the more casual griefers and would spare us at least some of this annoyance.

    god speed. ;)

Maybe all these attacks will make LL reconsider unverified accounts.

Can we get some more sims in the beta grid up, then? At the time of this post, it’s only Dore, Ahern, Lusk, Bonifacio, and Morris up and listed on the map.

Why hasn’t anyone commented or complained yet?

So, any specifics on this attack?

3 nights in a row? Wow.. That’s all i have to say… I don’t enjoy SL as much as i used to because of this. Too many rejectard griefers. >.

Or was it even an attack this time?

So the grid was only down for a little over an hour, and you managed to squash an extra bug while you were at it. Nicely done! =)

    Take care! ^..^

I don’t know why there are so few comments.

Perhaps it’s the “must be registered” having an effect.

When I click on the date below Fran’s name, it moves me down to the comment entry field. Why?

  13. 13 luciftias Says:

well, turnaround time on dealing with these attacks seems to be improving, at the least.

hopefully the holes in the gg fence will get patched soon.

Curious. Why restrict logins? This seems to happen a lot. I can understand shutting down the grid. That makes sense. But if there are already 8000-9000 residents online (who get to stay online while logins are restricted to God Entities), surely the extra trickle of residents that might login couldn’t make that much difference.

It seems to be moving me to the next comment.

Glad the grid is open again…I thought this Friday night would be a bust. Thanks for the quick work LL!

Did this blog just trackback itself?

  19. 19 Suresh Gundappa Says:

good to see action so fast!

The post that made the comment above “Official Linden Blog ยป Blog Archive Trouble with Several Regions” is a bit uppity for just a blog post. People are supposed to comment, not blog posts. Don’t want to come here and find the posts talking to each other crowding the people out to where the Linden staff can’t even get a word in edgewise.

Seriously, there doesn’t seem to be enough comments. Mine seem to be making it through. I would expect more comments about the “trouble with several regions”.

Is it possible to get my username to show as SuezanneC Baskerville, instead of suezannecbaskerville?

Yes suezanne, in the top left my account > edit profile. If you haven’t created a blog, you will have to do that. After creation you can acces the edit profile again you can make a nickname.
